I was an HM in the Navy for 4 years and I served two at Camp Pendleton. My Battalion Surgeon was the best Doc I ever worked for/met. I lost contact when transferring although I did add him on facebook. He deleted his FB after some time.

What is the correct way in getting in contact? I was going to write a formal letter, explaining that I want to be an MD and he has inspired me to do so. He is pretty laid back and approachable, I just want him to know I'm serious in my pursuit.

Best way is to contact your old chain of command, get in touch with the current medical officer there, see if he/she can tell you where your hero friend PCSd to, and then contact that command. You probably wont have much luck here; people aren't in the business of name-dropping here. If you wanna drop your own name here--for the off chance that your mentor is part of the readership here--that might be allowable.

I wouldn't expect a name drop or drop my own name here. I'll go with writing a letter to him at the new command.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but is emailing @med.navy.mil email appropriate? I've been accepted since starting this thread and now have a desire to contact. Previously, I was looking to get a LOR from him, but could not get in touch. I found the duty station, the command has no guidance on how to get in touch and I even called his Department- they did not help, although I left my name. I don't want to come off as a stalker, that's all. There were some terms involving our old MO that left things tainted for a lot of people involved so I'm not sure if he wants to leave a lot of people in the past. I never realized I would lose contact with a lot of my Military friends as I have since getting out.

Go ahead and email. If he does not want to assist, he will just ignore you.
