Hi,

I was accepted to two pharmacy schools. I sent the tuition deposit into one school but still have to complete 4 classes (very difficult ones, in fact).

The other school's tuition deposit deadline has passed but I have already met the requirements for pharmacy school. The deadline was two weeks ago but I just got a call from an adcom wanting me to call her back. What should I do? I want to stay on good terms with this school in case I fail one of the four classes I need to take for the other school. On the other hand, I don't want to waste $600 on another deposit.

Honestly, I would pay the deposit for both schools. Yeah, you'll lose money but its better than ending up not getting into either school.

Agreed! $600 is still cheaper than PharmCAS fees + application fees + plane tickets (maybe) + STRESS if you have to apply again next year!

Bingo, Yahtzee, I concur, etc.

If you are not confident you can pull at least a C out of the classes you have left then maybe you should put the money down for the other school.

$600 is pretty cheap insurance against another year of applications, deadlines, interviews, and waiting.

Just pass the classes and it won't be an issue. If you start making backup plans, you are almost giving yourself permission to fail a class. When you get to pharmacy school, you are going to have to pass your classes. Why should you leave yourself an out now before you get there? Just get it done and you will save yourself $600.

I am also completing a prereq for one school, and the other school doesn't need it. I had to withdraw from this class last semester, so obviously I have a hard time with it (and still do!).

I'm still weighing my options and trying to decide which school to go to, but since I only have a week+ to decide before my deposit is due, I am going to put down the deposit on both schools if I can't decide by then. It's better to have admission to both schools and lose a little money, than to not have admission at all later on if I can't pass this class!

Just wondering -- now that I'm in, can I just pull by with a C in that class? It's still passing, but would the school look down on that?

The best way to turn down an acceptance is by not saying anything at all. LOL. The school will know when its pass deadline to turn in your deposit money and you still have not yet done so...they will automatically drop you.

Most likely that is fine, but you should make sure. My acceptance letters all had what they expected, and it was at least a C. I haven't heard of pharm schools requiring higher grades than that once you are in.

Actually that is not true. For UB, you send in a form checking if you are accepting their offer or not. Well I couldn't get the online form to go through so I ended up mailing it the day it was due. They e-mailed me to get my answer because the form hadn't arrived there yet. I've known of other schools who do something similar if they don't hear from you. I know you are joking about actually doing that, but just wanted people to know they don't just automatically drop you if they don't hear from you.

what if you accept an offer of admission to one school. but later get accepted to a school that you would rather go to. can you accept the admission offer from your preferred school and just forfeit the deposit from the original school?

yes, i believe you can put down a deposit for the school you really want to go to and after thats settled call up the other school and tell them you want to give up your seat. you'll lose your deposit but its worth it if you'd rather go somewhere else.

Exactly... I'm not sure why they called you because normally when you don't send a deposit they will automatically assume you aren't attending and you will be dropped.

I have heard of one school calling after students decline by not saying anything, and they just do a survey asking why you chose not to attend, but this was a small private school and you don't have to explain if you don't want to.

The postal service in my area went nut at the time the letter was sent out, so I didn't receive my acceptance letter. Now this makes good sense why they called / emailed; otherwise, I would be doomed. 😛
