can someone tell me which schools look favorably over recent credits and not the overall? I don't mean which schools do academic forgiveness. I have a 3.0 GPA but recently have been getting 3.5 and higher and my overall wont change becaus I've had over 130 units completed!!!

I just know UOMichigan and USN does this? Does anyone know of any other schools? please tell me thanks so much

Most schools do this. Your GPA isn't just a number. If you're on the lower end of the acceptable GPA range, they'll take into account any trends that might be occuring.

But my problem is I don't know which gpa the school will look at more when considering me for acceptance. my recent 70 credits have been 3.75 overall and 3.5 science and I don't know if I will be competitive for acceptance without a degree because the actual number is 3.08 overall and 3.00 science. most people will say that if you're at the lower end then you will only be competitive with a degree. however, the higher gpa reflects me more due to extenuating circumstances. Is it worth applying now or should I get my degree first. I really don't want to waste another 2 years but at the same time I have not heard of anyone getting accepted at 3.0 and no degree.

I will suggest you try to finish up your degree as soon as possible. That will make you more competitive.

Yeah I really think you should try to get a bachelors if you can..Most schools look for people who have completed more than the bare minimum.. so just try get the degree to make youself a stronger candidate if you feel your gpa is weak.. (especially if you plan to apply to any cali schools)

what is meant by "the bare minimum?"
I have over 130 semester units completed and all the prereqs completed. I have way more units completed than the average acceptee.
Wouldn't that be more than the bare minimum? 😕

oh and I don't plan on applying to cali schools knowing how much they prefer a degree. I plan on applying out of state. I'm from cali though. I know people that got accepted to out of stateschools without a degree and their GPA is similar to my last 70 credits.

130 credits is more than the bare minimum but if those extra credits are not going to some goal like a bachelors then they really are not doing too much for you except making it harder to bring your GPA up. I think "more than bare minimum" was meant to say things that will help you on application. I had 210 credits but 50 of those credits were in engineering and I doubt those credits did anything positive or negative, just filled space really. If you already have 130 credits it doesn't seem like a bad idea to go toward bachelors in case things do not work out, never hurts to have that Bachelors in your future...

I'd agree, before I decided to go ahead and finish my degree I took some Pharmacy tech classes at a CC. Pharmacology, Pharmacy Calculations, and Pharmacy Systems, looks pretty schnazzy on a transcript if you don't have a degree already. (At least I think so) I also took Medicinal Chemistry (Chem500, so you'd have to be at a 4 yr for that) I doubt they were impressed at all with some of my other piddly classes that didn't have a single shade of pharmacy to them. (Intro to Criminal Justice, Intro to Theater/Dance)

thanks guys.

I'd think all that time in school showed maturity. I was told that one of the reasons they prefer people who hold a degree is because they've been in school longer and are older/wiser than one who just finished the prereqs at 20 or 21 y.o.

but yeah.....I do have all those Pharm Tech classes completed as well....pharmacology and calculations and systems and such...one of the reasons why my units are so high.

I agree with what you were told that the BS shows a degree of maturity. I would argue that it isn't because you have been in school for longer or taken x number of credits necessarily but instead because you were able to follow a goal and a set of parameters to earn a BS. That is different than just having a lot of credits, not that there is anything wrong with taking lots of classes for the hell of it, I have many friends who do this just because they love to learn and/or they just aren't sure about what they want to do and want to explore many options.

I wish you the best in this application cycle, you seem passionate in your past posts, I hope your passion shines through in your application and interviews...peace
