I am really confused as to this conversation about the 5 states where you have to intern first? so before i start residency in these 5 certain states I am going to have to intern for a year in an AOA program, does someone want to explain this to me? What are these five states?

Thanks!

there are a ton of threads on this topic. search osteopathic internship, resolution 42, five states, or something of that sort.

long story short, the vast majority of the time your intern year is simply your first year of residency. if you're in an osteopathic residency, you're good. if you're in an ACGME residency you can apply for approval via Resolution 42.

Also, I'm in one of those 5 states (OK), and technically the DO intern year isn't required here, just certain rotations as an intern.

For a full description of resolution 42 (the intern year waiver), see...

I obtained the waiver through resolution 42. It took about 6-8 months. However, for my application, I was able to list several reasons why I was not able to do a DO intern year/residency.
