I almost forgot this week to put in my adventures in volunteering.....Last Sunday I decided to stay 8 hours because first of all they let me and 2nd I didnt have any school the next day. Im glad I decided to stay an extra shift because right when I was suppose to leave things got exciting.

A 615 lb man came in complaining of loss of concentration (imagine that!!🙄 ) Anyways after being there for an hour the doctors decided that he needed a cath. So the nurses pulled me aside to help them out.....it was like hold a water bed up while the two nurses TWICE tried to put the cath in him...his skin was all crusty and falling off and the smell was not the greatest....one thing I have learned from that??? Focusing on something else can really get you through things 🙂

After that I helped the nurse in another trauma with a prisoner who had been having constant seizures all morning. I was able to help by holding the arm while she looking for a vein and also hold his arms so he would not hurt himself.

Finally the funniest thing all day,,,not even necessarily funny but the most entertaining. Everytime someone came in in this patients room she would just go off *you mther, get the hell out, i want out of here I dont want to be here i want to go home and go to sleep, you think this is funny??? oh ill give you something funny, you stupid doctor you dont know what your going to do, little blah blah." hehe finally after the docs did get her med she decided to pull out her iv and made a mess of the other trauma....everytime a nurse came on to take over the patients area the nurse would say *just stay out of that room* lol, after she got her meds though she was as gentle as a puppy 🙂

Hope to have more next week, this ER thing just keeps getting more fun by the week

I need to start volunteering in the ER. It kinda sounds like fun. What is your position that u volunteer for? Do u have to be a EMT?

No u don't have to be an EMT to work in ER. I did it but it was not as much fun as OP as this ER was not a Level I trauma center. If you want to see good cases, volunteer in Level I trauma center

hope that helps
