Hi pre-pods/students/pods, first post here.

I submitted my app and the gpa calculations came out to be,

3.43 BCP (science GPA from post-bacc)
2.96 cumulative GPA

Huge difference there and that's due to screwing up/partying/working a lot for the first 5 semesters of undergrad. I transferred to a different school and finished strong, along with a post-bac for the prereqs. I'm taking the MCAT on Jan. 27th and practice scores so far are in the range of 22-25.

AACPMAS just mailed my app to the schools. My top choices are Barry and NYCPM. I'm wondering about the 2.96 cumulative GPA which is below a 3.0 and a bit concerned on chances.

You should be concerned, to be honest. One of the things that always makes me wonder is, when undergraduate students aren't mature enough to realize that at this point, they should want to be in school to excel, and not just throw money out the window by paying for tuition and not being serious about it. Then they learn that what they did then has a major impact on how their future will unfold. With under a 3.0, even with a reasonable MCAT, you may have a hard time.

Sorry for the reality check, but better now than after 1st year when you've spent $50K already.

Hi Doc, I'm not sure what you mean because I did excel in my post bacc (still considered part of my undergrad) scoring As in both Bio and Physics. I'm quite serious about doing well for pod school . I scored above 3.0 in each semester after I transferred. There's an upward trend in my GPA and then a big spike up with science prereqs.

I'm also a non-traditional since my first year of undergrad was 9 years ago and graduated in 08.

Aj,

If theres an upward trend in your overall gpa and you get above a 22 on the mcat I think you will be fine. However to be safe apply liberally....

good luck

An upward trend is great. Way to go on those A's by the way. Honestly if your grades as of late are good, if your trend goes up, you have good LOR's Getting an interview will probably just hinge on your MCAT score. I'm not an admissions committee but if you scored a at least a 24 on the MCAT (very very doable) then you should be considered. The MCAT is an equalizer. Also, if you meet the requirements for an interview (requirements aren't high, but looks like your GPA is borderline) then getting in will likely hinge on the interview. When you do get an interview... be sure to really sell yourself well. Best of luck to you. If you want it go and get it.

Had you mentioned all that in your first post, I may not have been so negative in my estimation. Good luck.

i had the same problem but my MCAT Was high around >30 so i got the interviews. But even that was not enough to let me in to alot of schools. The interview process will be tough for you as it was for me. Schools will ask you to talk about why you did so bad. Just try to get a decent MCAT to prove that you have improved and did learn something from your classes.
