Yeah it is. They will be increasing the number of OUCOM total graduates by about 60 (from 140 to 200).

A campus on Columbus is a huge plus (to me, at least.) I am sure Athens is nice, but it's in a pretty rural area.

Good news!

The bad news is that OUCUM is still in Ohio.

🙄

Have you ever lived here or any of its cities? I bet you're a pompous pre-med from the Northeast or Cali. Great people and places can be found in many different places around the country.

Please, go spew your vitrol (otherwise known as useless comments) somewhere else, before you simple bag Ohio as "fly-over" country. Get over yourself, the school is rock solid in its medical education.

I actually find the Athens area beautiful and interesting for a set amount of time. Although, I admit I would never think about living there for more than a set time to get through an education. Medical school is about education first, and everything else is a secondary factor. That's what you're ultimately paying/putting your effort for 4 years into...

I agree Ohio is underrated, but I can imagine why people get the wrong impression. Especially with the state government pushing through the ant-union legislation.

I'm from the south, and I also spent some time around Ohio in the past. Learn to relax and take a joke.

edit: Ohio is pushing through anti-union legislation? They're moving up in my opinion.

Who brought Buzz Killington to the party?

Seriously bring it down a few notches...you act like he just tossed out a momma joke or something.

Ever since the Drew Carey show I've never understood Ohioans undying love for their state.

Lol all right fair enough on on the reaction. 😳
Still, this is the internet, it gives no context to a person's expression/tone. Believe it or not I've met plenty of people who actually do genuinely believe that Ohio is cornfields and a cultural hole, and were completely serious. How, is am I supposed to tell without any background on the OP?? So apologies for railing against kcin. But honestly, one-line zingers don't really add much to the discussion either.

I wish more people would add comments regarding to how the presence in Columbus should educate more Ohio medical consumers on what Osteopathy is and its place in the medical arena. I've met many in Columbus/Cincinnati who have never known OU had a medical school, let alone what osteopathic medicine. More positive press is good for furthering OUCOM's presence in the Ohio region. 😎

I agree. Ohio State and it's med center has such a strong presence in Columbus (and the state) that people forget about OU and osteopathic medicine sometimes. It will be very nice!

Agreed, but my PCP graduated from there so may be a bit biased. 😀

Anyone have speculation if this grant may (or may not) help keep OUCOM's tuition from inflating for in-state?

I know recently OU's been having some real budgetary issues recently, and I suspect their low-level tuition levels will probably be tried to be raised the next few years for the school in general. A lot of this is due to declining funding by the state to subsidize the universities. But, the state has so much debt, they really don't have much to spend to begin anyway.

However, the medical school is probably more its own entity and of course on a separate tuition scale. So, the issues facing one side may not hit the other as much. A 60 seat expansion is actually quite a lot, so they may just use it to cover those heads.

Yeah, I am always thrilled when police, fire, EMS, teachers are facing a 20% drop in pay. Woohoo. And their seniority is going to away, opening up favoritism and bribes! That will be awesome, too. We don't have near enough corruption going on.

Sorry to say, unions have brought about their own demise. They abused their powers in the past and unfortunately it is the workers who will end up falling victim. Just look at the US auto industry...the unions single handedly destroyed GM and Chrysler. I mean, paying someone who screws in a screw $65 dollars an hour is unsustainable. In the public sector, public employees have all of their benefits paid for while there is no government revenue to support this anymore. Everything has gone out of hand and no one wants to take concessions or make changes. I applaud the midwestern states for taking a stand. If only they would make changes the whole way through and reform entitlement programs and tax rates and maybe our country wouldn't be going to crap like it is.

But on the brighter side, Osama is no more!

Thanks for the support gang, its really super awesome to hear how happy you guys are that I'm getting screwed.

If any of you are actually interested in the truth instead of spouting off political rhetoric, feel free to shoot me a pm, as I'd rather not derail this thread any further.

Anyhow, back to the original topic, does anyone know if PCC will be offered at the Columbus campus?

It's good news if you're an Ohio resident!

I'll be applying this upcoming cycle and OU is definitely on my radar. Glad to hear the school is getting this kind of support. Certainly makes it more desirable.

IMO Rhetoric usually dies a logical death when applied to real people in real life, but not to the mythical HS drop out screw technician making bank. I am on your side, Mike, and so are a lot of concerned people who actually live here.

Back to the topic, I've read somewhere here that the PCC track is red haired stepchild at OUCOM, that they much favor the traditional track. I am not too concerned, the school has a good rep so they must be doing something right.

Yeah, because "bargaining" with an employer you donate money to isn't corrupt at all. Public sector unions can get stuffed. They aren't necessary, they're just there to fleece taxpayers for as much as they can.

U mad bro?

+1.... Someone who actually knows what they are talking about.

haha freakin hillarious. funny stuff right there.

Columbus is a pretty awesome city though, aside from being in Ohio of course.

My brother and his wife are doing their emergency medicine residency there at Doctor's Hospital, loved the city and hospital when i went to visit. got to shadow for a day on the floor.

I think Ohio is pretty DO friendly. I am in the northern part, and there's a fair number of practicing DOs. Which makes sense sine OU has that agreement practice in Ohio.

Ha! I agree with that statement BECAUSE I was born and raised in Ohio and am back (for no more than 4 years, 3 of those down already) living in Ohio for med school.

That is a great thing for OU, Columbus is a much more logical place for a medical education than Athens. But then, the osteo two years here, two years wherever model never really made sense to me.

Good for OUCOM!

...but, they still need to stop screwing their out of state residents with 7 years of indentured servitude.
