hi. i ran into this problem....and am a lil confused. help would be appreciated 🙂

If the mass percent of oxygen in a nitrogenoxygen
compound is known, given the mass
percent of oxygen, all of the following are
needed to determine the molecular formula of
a nitrogen-oxygen compound EXCEPT one.
Which one is this EXCEPTION?
A. Atomic mass of nitrogen
B. Atomic mass of oxygen
C. Avogadro's number
D. Empirical formula
E. Molar mass of the compound

The answer is D, I can see how it is D, but originally I thought it would be C. Why do we need Avogadro's #?? 😕

Thank you!! 😀

Yea we don't need to know either C or D. But my hunches would have landed on D since the type of question most relates to that. You really don't need avogadro's number for the percent mass problem.

Hopefully this helps.

your hunches landed on the right answer and mine on the wrong :/ haha. thank you!!

well good trick to remember on these tricky science and reading questions, the easiest answer is easier to pick so its probably wrong. I double check my easy answers whenever I have to pick my answer choices. Just remember these guys are tricky in setting up an exam. I would be tricky too if I were making an exam like this and my 80,000 dollar job depended on it.

Edit: Wow I said tricky 4 times and I am sticking to it.

lamo! i ll remember that when i take my tricky exam next week. and hopfully it doesnt get too tricky or it ll be tricky to get into dental school. 😛

What is this?!? is that supposed to be a mockup of The Lecter? Well good luck I am sure you will do fine

1) Review all your notes/flashcards
2) Take at least 3 practice tests
3) Get off SDN for this entire week - highly suggested
4) Chill the F out the day before
5) Listen to some fin techno on the way to the testing center

You will definitely get into dental school no matter what u 25er. 🙂
