Hey guys,
Im looking for an answer for a seemingly simple bio question. Any help would be appreciated.

mRNA and rRNA are produced in the nucleolus, and i also thought that tRNA is made in nucleolus too. But, kaplan says that it doesn't. CliffsAP doesn't mention it. Internet says all different things 🙁 Where is tRNA produced?

Thanks in advance 🙂

I didn't see anything in my bio text book (Biology by Raven) but by using google and searching "where is trna made?" it looks like it's made in the nucleus.

Are you sure? I thought it was just rRNA made in the nucleolus... 😕

only rRNA is made in the nucleolus. mRNA is def not made in the nucleolus because it jus the transcription of DNA, and theres also post translational modification in the cytoplasm. tRNA is made the same way as mRNA (for the most part). the difference is that RNA Pol II transcribes mRNA, whereas RNA Pol III transcribes tRNA. Also, tRNA undergoes some splicing of introns from the pre-tRNAs. tRNA splicing is carried out by endonucleases, whereas mRNA splicing is done my splicosomes.

Duh! i always mixes these up..so, to clarify things here..

mRNA - nucleus
tRNA - nucleus
rRNA - nucleolus

Right?

Sorry about the confusion, and thanks for your help!🙂
