Just wondering if any of you all have took Biochem or Organic Chem in order to satisfy the pre-req requirement for chemistry? I am highly interested in applying to Duke and saw on PTCAS where they recommend biochem or organic as a specialize chem course, but gen. chem 2 would suffice. Just wondering if it would be worth the trouble?

I was just accepted to Duke for this cycle and I have general chem 1&2...I don't think it matters to them what you take as long as you do well in the classes you do take.

Kcrat21, I am going to PM you. Hopefully you will be able to provide me with some great advice 🙂

I think I'd rather try skydiving than take O-Chem :scared:

Lol, but in all seriousness, Gen Chem I and II is usually more than fine for most PT schools. I've seen a few that want biochem, but that's just a handful of schools.

haha, I couldn't agree more. Chemistry like learning to read Chinese for me!

I've heard the same that general chem 1 & 2 are just fine for PT school.
Biochem is only for a few schools. Though it's not a bad idea to take because it leaves the option open for you to pursue other medical careers instead if you end up choosing to.

Actually, now that I think about it, does anyone know if can I list my biochem class as chemistry II, and have organic chemistry as chem I? My biochem didn't come with a lab, but I did really well in it so I think it would be prudent to use that instead of my chem I grade.

I took bio chem with no lab and for most schools it would not count because it had no lab. I took oChem as well so I used chem 2 and Ochem as my chemistry classes

I did better in organic chem than I did in Intro Chem I...

CSB68940 - I was accepted to Duke and had general chem I and II. You should be fine as long as you did well in those classes.

kcrat21 - Congratulations! I know you really wanted to be accepted to Duke. It looks like we'll be classmates next fall.

CSB68940- Just another voice popping in to say that I was also accepted to Duke this cycle having taken Chem I and II. No need to take the specialized chem courses unless you have an interest in them.

Congrats trichic! Another Duke '15!

Congrats to all you new Dukies!!!! How exciting! Any words of advice???
