Hey everyone

I am sure there are lots of posts about this...but can some of my upper class-men recommend

A GOOD BIOCHEMISTRY BOOK.

here are the choices so far

1) Medical Biochemistry - Bhagavan

2) Biochemistry - Berg, Tymoczko, Stryer

3) Biochemistry - Garrett, Grisham

Any of those

or can you recommend something else....

doing PBL course, self directed....and all that jazz

want something easy to read, and well explained.

Cheers guys
Robert

hey Robert,
actaully I've studied Biochemistry from " Lippincott's review book", it's really a good resource of information, some guys used "Devlin", but this textbook is really big , and u'll feel tired of studying it.

cheers

Before you purchase anything, go to your library and look at all three of these. Purchase the one that you like the best. In essence, Biochemistry is pretty generic so use the book that you think you will like to read. This is one of the best uses of your school's medical library.

Other good Biochemistry texts are Rawn's Biochemistry (comes with 3-D glasses for viewing molecules), Lehninger and Fox, Voet and Voet (heavy on the basic chemistry) and Devlin as mentioned below.

Devlin had loads of clinical correlations and is a quality biochemistry book. Lippincott is a "review" book and you really can't review what you haven't learned in the first place. It a good resource but it can't be your only resource if you are doing PBL.

If you need a book to supplement your class notes, then I'd recommend either:

Lippincotts Biochem or

Rapid Review Biochem.

Remember, keep your eye on the prize -- USMLE Step 1.

I used rapid review last year for biochem, but just got my hand on the kaplan lecture notes, and their biochem and medical genetics book is pretty amazing. I finally understand many of the concepts that I struggled with last year, and it is a very easy book to read through.
