BIOCHEM: Kaplan vs Lippincott

So Biochem is a weak subject of mine and I would like to begin reviewing it now. I have Lippincott's Biochem Review and the Kaplan Review for Biochem and Molecular Bio.

I just can't decide which to use. I had a hard time with the BRS and FA is clearly not a good primary source.

So in general which would you recommend: Lippincott or Kaplan or BRS?

Biochem is one of my weakest subjects as well, and I just bought Rapid Review Biochem, which is what I plan to use for boards studying. I used Lippincott for class first year, but that's way too much for me to get through for boards. I also used BRS to study for the shelf exam last year and hated it.

I can't comment on RR yet since the book literally arrived today, but after talking to people/reading reviews online that's what I've decided to go with.

Our primary text in med school was Lippincott. I thought this was an awesome choice on the part of our Biochem dept because it was concise enough not to put you to sleep, but had enough details to give a great idea of the mechanisms involved. It also had a ton of clinical correlates which is what the real $$$ is when you're reading biochem.

That being said, I am finishing up Kaplan Biochem right now for my Step 1 prep and I must say that it is much better suited to a review for the Boards. It explains Mol Bio very well, and puts things into a bit simpler terms for quicker understanding than LWW. I'd go with Kaplan.

PS- I've read that Goljan himself recommended the Kaplan book for Biochem since he knows the author. He said that while he worked for Kaplan though, so take it with a grain of salt.
