I'm confused by two different biochem listings, one in my chem department and one in my bio department. I know others have posted about this before and if I remember correctly most people advised on taking the bio biochem, however the course descriptions confuse me.

CHEM BIOCHEM

Fundamentals of biological chemistry, including the structure of biological macromolecules and their mechanism of action, intermediary metabolism, and the chemical basis of information transfer.

BIO BIOCHEM

An introduction to protein structure, enzyme kinetics, mechanism of enzyme action and allosteric regulation of enzyme activity; introduction to cell structure and function including membrane structure, membrane receptors and signal transduction, motility, and the cell cycle.

Is bio biochem what I'm looking for with respect to preparing for med school?

You sure its not just the same class listed under both bio and chem? Thats how it is where I am.

CHEM Biochem looks like it will be about pathways and whatnot, where the BIO Biochem just sounds like a cell bio/molecular equivalent. However, that is just what I am perceiving it to be, based on your descriptions. The biochem class I am taking this semester is listed through the Chem department, is intensive in pathways and metabolism, but also covers cell bio/molecuar stuff.

If I were you, I'd talk to an advisor/med students about the two.

Could it be that bio biochem is more cell bio related while chem biochem is more of the type you find at other institutions (i.e. typical biochemistry). The Chem Biochem seems to be the one that deals with metabolism.

Just contributing an idea - could be completely wrong.

I'm a fool.

Cell biology and biochemistry is the name of the "Bio Biochem." Sorry for wasting your time!

What did you guys think of cell bio?

I loved cell bio! But then again, I had an excellent professor who made the course engaging :hardy:

I'll ignore the first part, but I'd check and see which will be more useful for the MCAT.
