As a Bio major, i need to take Ochem and Genetics(1st sem)/ Cell Molec( 2nd sem) next year. Is it a bad idea to be taking these science classes with Ochem because im a Bio major. Or do you guys recommend taking it at different time or just changing majors to just focus on the pre-req. I'm really considering changing majors so i can focus on the pre-req instead of overloading myself with science classes. What's the most popular sequence of classes that most pharmacy students took?

No need to change majors. Most of the science degrees have some sort of overlapping especially when you are talking about pre-reqs for professional schools. The classes should be doable.👍

I took genetics with ochem I in the fall of my sophomore year, and spring semester had ochem II + lab with two micro bios + micro lab. It's definitely doable, though I didn't make straight A's either semester. Look at it this way though... pharmacy school is gonna be over 15 hours of straight science classes and labs every semester. Is it really in your best interest to change majors just so you only have to take one science class each semester right now?

I'm a Biology major, and during my junior year, I took O Chem I, Microbio, and Physics all in the same semester. I honestly wish I had more time to devote to each subject, but like one person said - pharmacy school will be ALL science, so it's good to go ahead and prepare for the stress load. If you can, take some electives that will be less strenuous and can help balance out your GPA. I had A's in Physics and O Chem, but a B in Micro - but it didn't affect my GPA as much because of the "cushion" classes. Good luck! 🙂

For most people who are fulfilling the pre-requisites, that's the order in which they're done. Most of us probably took Gen Bio and Gen Chem in the first year and then the sophomore courses during the second year. It's not a bad idea, it's what's expected of you. Have you taken Calc or Physics yet? A semester with physics, genetics, and o-chem might not be your most fond memory, but at least it looks good on paper and you're getting a significant portion of the difficult pre-reqs done in a semester.

It's important to show you can handle a full "real" courseload that isn't composed of mainly fluff like English, Philosophy, etc, and one real science course. Good luck!

Which science works best with Pharmacy then. Would Chem major be harder than a Bio major? I was also considering specific Bio majors like Zoology.

What you major in is not the most important thing here. Stick to Bio (MO), do your pre-reqs and try to get good grades. It's not like they are all easy anyways. That's the best way that I can put it.😉

Choose the major that you think you'll enjoy the most (and in theory do the best in). A lot of the pre-reqs can be worked into the major.

I guess that could be another theory but I guess it also depends on how far into your Bio degree you are currently. If you are a senior then it makes no sense to switch at this time. If you are a sophomore or freshman, then I would go with mcalabr's advice.
