How is salt absorbed into the body system ?

maybe this sounds little stupid, but I am really wondering how this happens...

When you drink sea water, because of the conc , water from your body gets out of the cell and you feel more thirsty right? which sound like salt is never be able to get into the body.

in this sense, when you eat salt, salt never can gets into the body right?

but you just feel thirsty , need more water and that's it, salt will be mixed with water you drink and out of the body.

How is salt able to be absorbed in the first place ????

Hm, I thought the salt is being absorbed in the intestine, not too sure though.

I believe salt "sucks" water out of your body not so much in the intestinal tract as in the urinary tract. Salt is absorbed by the body in the small intestine. It's in the liquids of your body until those liquids are filtered at the glomerulus of the kidney. Salt (ocean) water is about 1000 mOsm [] and urine can be up to 1400, so it might seem like we should be able to derive some water out of drinking salt water, BUT, urine must also rid the body of urea, this takes up some of the 1400 mOsm (amount of solute that can be in urine) of the most concentrated urine. In order to rid the body of the salt load by peeing out the salt, the renal system must actually ADD water to the salt solution.

So, it's in through the small intestine and out in our urine, with net loss of water. : (

I am no authority, this is what I remember from physio 2+ years ago.

anybody????

the kidney is what determines what the final osmolarity will be. but it depends on how much salt u had to begin with and how much salt is getting filtered at the glomerulus. pay more attention to adh and aldosterone and what causes u to absorb more salt and or water etc.

First of all,

Thanks for the reply.

but what I was wondering is before kidney..

When I eat salt, it doesn't go to kidney directly, it will go to stomach first,

so I am wondering the next process to absorb salt after it gets to stomach..

Thanks
