No, it would not be an issue.

For AMCAS, if you are not allowed to check multiple boxes, you may select "other" and describe yourself better.

That is what I would do.

This is for the MCAT? Why choose to self identify at all for the MCAT? It's just there to make cool spreadsheets that show that Whites and Asians on average will score higher. Don't sweat it on the MCAT.

If you're trying to allude to future possibilities of applying as a URM, die.

Not sure I understand what you mean... why would I need or want to flip flop? I just don't want any trouble when I get to my interview.
 
Can it be that virtually anyone can become a URM?

I mean, all you have to do is check a specific box, then claim you are part of that race......?

I'm confused. So you have an Arab parent and a Black African parent? Or an Arab parent and a White African parent?

How have you always identified? Like for college and the census and all those things. This can't be the first time you've had to self-identify your race/ethnicity.

although this is true for census reasons and to help make it seem like authorities don't discriminate, etc., it's actually B.S. because Arabs don't get treated like Whites. If you say someone is White, treat them like Whites. Arabs are Semitic peoples closely related to Ethiopians who are Black Africans. they're an Afro-Asiatic people historically that are as diverse as they come from Sudanese Black to Levantine/Syriac White.

clearly there is nothing morally repugnant about a statement like this. your bitterness is showing. it's remarkable, though, the bravery that cowards display online (particularly on this forum) in making such statements... especially to, in this instance, a [seemingly] innocuous question.

Also, African blacks are not the same as African-Americans in this country.

OP has a (black) African parent and grew up in africa...Don't see why people are all up in arms, seems pretty reasonable for him/her to be considered an URM.

I wasn't taking pot shots at transgender people. I fully support them. I was pointing out a flaw in the affirmative action process since labels are becoming progressively fluid.

I think it is an annual thing... starting in March, and extending to the middle of May where it peaks. It is then slowly marginalized by the influx of AMCAS and school list questions in the summer, and the cycle begins anew...

call one of the medical schools you are interested in applying, and ask to talk to someone in student affairs. every medical school has an office of student affairs, and an officer for minority student affairs. tell her/him your story, and be honest and strait forward. chances are this person has worked with many students that qualify as minorities. based on what this person tells you, make a decision and stick with it, and be consistent from this point onwards.

for example, at the Medical College of Wisconsin, this is the office. I suggest you give them a call and explain your situation. good luck !
