So the subject says it all:

I start Ob/Gyn next month and was able to get a hand-me-down 3rd Edition (2004) of Blueprints. My aim is to run through the book prior to starting the rotation and wondering if this edition is significantly different than the latest one? I also plan to use Case Files and Pre-test later when the rotation begins.

Also,I'd appreciate any tips to do well on the rotation, especially from H&P standpoint.Any feedback appreciated! Thanks.

Awesome! Try your best to learn the material, recognize that the residents are all gonna be b!tches, so be prepared to be scutted out and yelled at for no reason whatsoever. Check your ego at the door and let everything roll off your back.

What's everyone's view on step up to step 2 on/gyn section and the questions from uWise?

Just wanted to add the worst people in the world are L&D nurses. There is a special place in hell inside Satan's butthole for them.

I got placentas out a couple times.

It was fun.

L&D OR staff have had any sense of humor or joy in life surgically resected.

Truly awful human beings...the whole lot of them...

This one L&D turd of a nurse started giving me an attitude the other day when I wanted the resident to co-sign a progress note I had just done but her and the resident were busy watching youtube clips...I mean...jesus christ...I went to the on-call room for the next 2 hrs and took a nap...**** them all

My obgyn rotation is at a hospital without an obgyn residency. We work directly with the attendings, who are almost entirely a really easygoing bunch that like to teach. The only exception is one attending who is super intense to work with fresh out of residency. The L&D nurses are, without exception, a friendly bunch that have made my experience a lot better.

Gonna buy them a crapload of appreciation donuts in my last week.

The trick is really to have no interest in OBGYN, and then plan out your schedule to do the rotation at a quiet community hospital.

Hahaha that is awesome!

I did my core ob/gyn rotation at a small community hospital with no residents and very laid-back attendings. I am thankful I had such an opportunity, because if I hadn't, I don't know if I'd be going into it now. If my entire impression of the specialty was based on one particular away rotation I did, I probably wouldn't want to do this for a living. They were the worst residents I have ever worked with. They either ignored or yelled at students and treated the interns like crap, constantly making fun of them or talking about them when they weren't around (in front of students, nurses, and sometimes attendings). The nurses I have worked with in ob/gyn have been nice for the most part, although I think night nurses in general are far and away better than day nurses. The attendings were a happy bunch as well. I guess it's a special place for residents with no souls and that's why I didn't fit in. 🙂
