Maybe GFUNK can field this. On my AMCAS, I noticed that UAB is listed as having a BME program. However, I have searched the website several times, and BME research is never listed. Just an AMCAS mistake, or a mystic PhD option at Alabama? Any light that could be shed on this would be appreciated.

UAB does have a BME program and there have been 2 students in our MSTP who received their PhDs in this area. The first has already graduated and the second is doing her clinical rotations.

When we first got MSTP funding, programs like BME, Epi, and Comp Sci were not "officially" endorsed by our steering committee. However, students have completed PhDs in all three areas. However, you will likely be dissuaded from going into these fields without a strong undergraduate background. BME, in particular, requires nearly two years of remediation without a bachelor's degree in engineering.

Thanks. This is very encouraging. I have B.S. degrees in chemical engineering and physics and I will complete my master's in ChemE soon (one would think). With this background, would I still be "dissuaded" from going into engineering? Thanks for your help, as always.
