What is the lifestyle of bmt physicians?

In an academic center with several bmt docs what do bmt docs do when they are not on inpt service for bmt?

My buddy is one of our BMT docs. When he's on service, he has 15-25 patients to round on every day. He generally does 12-15 hour days on service. He takes call but the on-call fellow handles everything but incoming transfers and disasters.

When he's not on service, he does clinic 1 day a week and works in the lab the rest of the time. The other BMT docs that don't have basic science labs do 3 days of clinic and "clinical research" (also known as going home early on your non-clinic days).

As well what is compensation looking like these days for bmt?

It's as crappy as everything else in academics.
