Hi,

Do you guys know of any books or movies about pathologists?
The only book I found and like is "The final diagnosis" Arthur Hailey

Thanks,

Simon

There are multiple TV shows regarding forensic pathology (CSI, etc) right now, and a couple a few years back!

Discovery did a Special titled "Autopsy" in which I have a camio as technician :) and I think you can find copies on their site (No, I don't get roytalties :D )

As for books, there are many which focus on forensics as well.

I personally haven't heard of any books on general pathology.

Perhaps Pumpkin can consider starting his own novel "Chronicles of a Pathologist Foretold..."

Good day All!

I read a book that was a little touchy-feely story about life as a surgical pathologist and some of the limited patient interaction that happens. It was called The Language of Cells by Spencer Nadler. Pretty good but not exactly hard-core info on pathology.

If you like fiction, you could try any of Patricia Cornwell's books. They are murder mysteries featuring Kay Scarpetta, a forensic pathologist, as the main character. I just started reading one, and it's not bad.

I second the recommendation on the Patricia Cornwell books. The main character is the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia and many of the cases she uses have a touch of real life cases in them. Ms. Cornwell spends alot of time in the ME's office here researching cases and discussing cases with the actual Chief ME (Dr. Fiero), they are good friends.

On another note, I am working in the ME's office this month and having a blast. I really do like forensic path more than any other part of path, just don't think I can do the work for the government thing. But, anyone considering forensics this is one of the best places in the country for a forensic path fellowship.

My personal favorite is "A Case of Need" by Michael Crichton.

I have to third the recommendation for Patricia Cornwell's books. (She just came out with a new Scarpetta novel a few months ago). Weil-Felix, which one are you reading now??

While these 3 books aren't specifically about pathology, they relate to cadavers (Stiff) and early forensic science (the Caleb Carr books):

Stiff by Mary Roach
The Alienist by Caleb Carr
Angel of Darkness by Caleb Carr

I'm reading "Cause of Death". I had to put it on hold for a bit, becuase I got sucked into another book that I wanted to finish first (Dune, by Frank Herbert), but now that I'm done with that one, I can get back to the Patricia Cornwell book.

Man, I just love fourth year! I actually have time for pleasure reading again!

I've read that one. Actually, I finished the last one "Blow Fly" a couple of months ago. I didn't think that it was as good as the other ones:( . But, I can't wait for the next book to come out.
