I am reapplying this year and I was wondering if i Take classes summer/fall after i submit my AMCAS how that would effect my application. I talked to someone at Wayne State and they said that it wouldnt make a difference because they would not be on the AMCAS and thats what they look at for GPA. Is this how it is at most schools? Is it worth to take classes after you submit your AMCAS?

Taking a class to boost your GPA would not work....it would be too late by the time you get your final grade (for fall class)---- summer might work...but if you have already submitted your AMCAS, you would have to send an update to schools and even then i am not sure how much difference one grade is gonna make.

I was in your situation and I took masters level public health class. This class never was added to my AMCAS howerver it helped complete my application. I have interest in public health and so it made sense to further pursue the interest and take this masters lever class (to be honest...till this day, i don't know what i got in it). I did talk about the class and my projects in the class in each of the interview and it seemed to help.

So to recap...it won't help to boost your GPA but if you have a better reason take some relevant (not necessarily easy) class.

It all depends on how many years you got in. I suppose one full semester might provide a small boost, but probably not big enough to significantly alter it. There's not much of a difference between a 3.65 and a 3.69. Unless, you were at a 3.0 and got a 4.0 for one semester.

But it could help if you end up reapplying next year, so it still may make sense for you to do it...

Also, a new transcript is a great way to write an update letter to express interest to a school:

Dear Duke Medical School,

Just wanted to let you know that I'm still dead set on gracing you with my presence in the fall of 2007. By the way, if you are on the fence about me, this 15-credit 4.0 from my last semester where I beat the "could-have-been-slacking-because-I-already-applied" blues should help you make your decision.

But, you guys are right. You need to have an attractive enough GPA that they haven't tossed you on first sight.
