I got a citation from the BOP no fine nor poof of abatement is needed this was due to discovering a dispensing error but not completing a report within 2 business days. If not contested it will appear on my record in the board facility but nothing will show up online when verifying a license but it will stay at the board for 5 years. People can only know about if they do a license verification like some employers do for hiring. They they are required to send them a copy of the citation. Not sure how bad this is? Any experience with citation before? One pharmacist said I had the best outcome because no fee to pay no CE classes to take whatsoever to make it up for it. But it does haunt me that if I get fired from my job within next 5 years it could make it hard to find another job? So the report was started but never completed within the timeframe it wasn’t my dispensing error also. I’m the one who caught it. Any advice? Should I contest or just leave as it is? Not sure if there is anything to contest unless the event never really happened which it did.

Completing a report to your employer or the BOP?

Well I got the letter/citation for not finishing and submitting to the BOP. It was completed and finished after the 2 business days but what prompted its completion and submission was a board visit to the store few weeks later. I completed and submitted everything the day after the visit per my manager request and recommendation

tell us what the error was

Whatever it was, that's 100% on you for reacting so slowly to a board inquiry.

wait how did the board even find out about the error

It was mixed tablets of different strengths of the same drug. The customer called the BOP.

I was like a new pharmacist at the time been working for 6 months only and had barely knew how to file dispensing errors, I had done like only 3 or 4 at the time, which was the month prior this incident occurred, the previous month I got transferred to another pharmacy as staff. I used to be a floater for previous 5 months since I got licensed. I also have never seen commingled tablets of same strength before too which had different colors. Not to mention that the customer had picked up in the past the other commingled medication in the vial when they had dose changes. I was hesitant and unsure. But now my supervisor told me that when in doubt still submit.

At the time I wasn’t sure if it was a dispensing error or if the customer brought to us comingled in the vial because the had picked up the other strength in the bottle the month prior or so

Unfortunately internally reported dispensing errors, or perceived dispensing errors in the case of delusional customers who don't take any responsibility for their life, must be accompanied by the BOP-mandated quality assurance review to cover yourself. If you get a complaint just whip up a review just in case...

I even had to do one for a ******* prescriber who lost his pad yet filed a complaint against my pharmacy because I ****ing told the dip**** about the fake Rx after I found out. Otherwise this dip**** wouldn't even have known. No deed goes unpunished. Fortunately I got the pharmacists out of getting a fine and a mark on their licenses

Wow I appreciate your response Sine Cura I had no idea that it was still expected to submit to cover myself, but what if the customer commingled it? There wouldn’t be proof on me either to prove it either. The citation gives me the option to contest but not sure if it’s worth it or if it will change anything, no fine and no proof of abatement, so I’m thinking the BOP is being generous?? they could have ask for $500 or $1000 right? At this point not sure if I should consider legal representation or not or just suck it up for 5 years. It will be taken off from my record in 5 years but it’s an administrative action. Not sure how other employers would see it if they do a license verification, will they see me as not trustworthy or non compliant? Not sure. I called the BOP and spoke to a specialist, I asked about legal representation but she told me that what I got wasn’t disciplinary and I would have to proof at a conference that the event did not occur at the pharmacy.

So I feel like this citation is forcing me to stay at the same job for 5 years. I don’t know which employers do license verification or not, I assume most do? Not sure what would happened also if another/different citation would to occur again within the 5 years, I fear that a second citation would be even worse based on previous history? I will call BOP again next week for more details and situations when they open

When there was a shortage you could be the second coming of Attila the Hut and no one would care..Now you only have to be old and well paid. I got one many moons ago caused by something I wasn't even involved in but just happened to be the one on site when the BOP babe showed up...Turned out the owner and a local dentist were mad at each other.etc etc. These are the kind BOP's love...they don't dare take on the big money operations..so they beat up on the peons to look busy. Getting the boot for this would only be a convenient excuse. The above referenced shortage is long, long gone..( I do suggest scanning the local area from time to time..if you spot an official looking dude/dudette shining around, beware)

Just apply to Walgreens. They don't check this stuff thoroughly apparently

For peace of mind, if you have the time you could contest it but any documents you need might need to be cleared with legal...
