For anyone who knows, what is the exact Math requirement(s) for Boston University Dental School? On their website, it states:

"One year (6 semester hours). A basic understanding of calculus is needed."

However, what consists of a "basic" understanding of calculus? Do they only require up to pre-calc, or is it Calc 1 also?

Also, what math has to be under the 6 semester hours? Just calc only? Or can another math satisfy that requirement such as college algebra?

AB equivalent I would say satisfies their 'basic knowledge' or otherwise they would say 6 semester hours of calculus.

Maybe pre-calc counts as 3 semester hours and the calc 1 (AB) class counts as the other and you're set.

You could always call them!

i always thought pre calc was similar to trig. if it's one year, it's calculus 1 and 2. both are single variable. pretty easy stuff. DO it.

thanks, but does anyone else have a more concrete answer (i.e. you actually know)? They seem to be busy at the office, and no one replied when I e-mailed them...

I managed to get an answer out of the director of admissions on this. I'd taken a semester of Stats and a semester of Calc I and wanted to know if I really had to enroll in Calc II. (Scrimping and saving for tuition money, literally credit by credit, this year so I didn't want to pay for credits I wouldn't need!) The response I got was that in my case, I "should be ok", and that most students take a semester of Calc I and then a semester of Biostatistics or similar, but no, I did not *have* to take Calc II. My advice would be to keep trying to email someone in admissions about this and get a straight answer IN WRITING from them so as to avoid any potential confusion later about completing your math requirement.

i took Biostats, no calc, and got an interview...but i haven't actually spoke with anyone about it

I have an interview and I only had up to trig.

If it helps

A buddy of mine has an interview and has only taken intro to stats (not biostats) and one semester of pre-calc, so I guess pre-calc is good enough...

Yeah, I too have an interiview at BU but I have not taken any trig or calc (not a bio major). But schools offer interviews to students even if they have not completed their pre-reqs (they expect them to complete them before matriculation).

Does ANYONE know exactly what BU Dental School wants for their math requirements? This meaning, can one get in with only taking Pre-Calc?

Btw, I called and e-mailed them, but no answer yet (must be very busy)..

Thanks

I never took math in college and I was accepted last year. Ok, I don’t count math 101.
