Boston University: PM&R Program

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am a PGY-IV Resident at Boston University- Medical Center and as I could tell faculty memebers are willing to teach you. Dr. Kaplan (the program director) has extensively improved the curriculum in order to have a stronger program. Overall, it has a very good faculty, nearly universally accessible. It is a very resident-oriented program!!!! In the month, there are radiology conferences. Some days are devoted to learn about neurologic as well as musculoskeletal examination. You also have the opportunity to work with a cadaver to review anatomy. You can have the opportunity to do an elective at research if you decide to.

All the 3 programs in the area aof Boston are very good, although Tuft has suffered its drawbacks recently. What I liked about this program, is that you are exposed to a varied population, and as a result you are being exposed to MANY different kinds of pathologies. When applying to a Residency training, it was important for me how the training program regarding inpatient/outpatient is emphasied.

Strong area: This program has a stronger outpatient curriculum when compared at other programs (incluiding elite programs), specially in the Musculoskeletal-Sports Medicine area. In fact, one of the recent graduates is working with the Boston Celtics as part of the staff physicians.

Weakness: TBI

Most graduates end up applying to fellowships or going into private practice. I know that in the near future, this program has the potential to become part of the elite programs. I love Boston and this program, I feel very comfortable in it. 😛
