I have been trying to calculate the time it takes to finish and graduate vs. the scheduling of the Match etc.... It seems that if I start in August 2009 and follow the proposed university schedule I would be on the sidelines for one year since I would only finish on March 8th?! Would that be the case? Can someone explain the process? Would I be able to cram my clinicals early between term 6 and 7 take only 1 month off instead off 4 and finish by December? Please let me know if this would be feasible. Cheers!Term Ranges (as proposed by SGU)Term 117 weeks (08/17 - 12/15)Term 218 weeks (01/11 - 05/18) 2010Term 36 weeks (06/18 - 08/18) 2010Term 418 weeks (08/10 - 12/18) 2010Term 56 weeks (01/10 - 02/18) 2011Term 612 weeks (02/21 - 05/18) 20114 MONTHS GAPTerm 718 weeks (08/29 - 12/30) 2011Term 816 weeks (01/02 - 04/13) 2012Term 916 weeks (04/16- 08/03) 2012Term 1016 weeks (08/06 - 11/16) 2012Term 1116 weeks (11/19 - 03/08) 2013

You don't have to graduate to enter the match... You only have to have passed Steps 1, 2CK, 2CS to match, and you must have graduated (to get ECFMG certification) in order to start your residency.

Ah!!!! Phew!!! Now that sounds a bit better....THANKS! Around when during the clincal stage should one take the Step 2 CS/CK?

coralis,
US medical students almost always take the USMLE Step 1 right at the end of 2nd year, before starting 3rd year.

People generally take Step 2 and Step 2CS during 4th year of school, usually in the first 1/2 of the school year. There is some difference in the timing according to the particular student. Some people with high Step 1 will delay taking the Step 2 exams (just in case they don't get a high score on Step 2 and it hurts their application). Some people who didn't get a good score on Step 1, but feel like they can do better on the Step 2 CK, will take the Step 2 CK pretty early (like early fall of last year of school) in order to have the score come back early enough to help them get interviews and/or get ranked higher in the Match.

Thanks sooo much again guys! Dragonfly99 the timeline is very helpful....thanks again for taking the time.
