Bow ties?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Bow ties are cool. Just like Fezzes and Stetsons.

If I'm the only giant nerd here who watches Doctor Who I'll go ahead and cry in peace.

Stetsons are freaking rad.

I wish I could pull one off. However, wearing a Stetson would be ironic like Outkast rocking the confederate flag.

Maybe that's a reason to wear one...

😀.

Also, the angels have the phone box

That had better not be from season 6. I just managed to finish season 5 when Netflix FINALLY got it online.

BTW, i think bowties are great, as long as they're not cheap-o crappy clip-ons. I have about a dozen or so that I mix with the regular four-in-hand style ties ("regular" neckties).

I think it's from series 3, the one after Rose leaves, with Martha Jones and the Master.

Can't say that I'm in love with the new writers. They don't seem to be as subtle as the older ones.

The hell it is!

"The Angels have the phone box" is from Blink, the one with Sally Sparrow that is very Doctor-lite.

Series 3, Episode 10. ...what? I'm not obsessed or anything. It's a good episode 😛

I don't mind Moffat's direction at all, I think it's fresh and new... I feel like Davies was getting tired of running the same gag over and over with the same repertoire of bad guys. I liked that Moffat is at least trying to create new bad guys, new kinds of storylines, etc. I def think he's a lot more straightforward with his scares though (the two parter about the Weeping Angels was awesome).

apparenlty i'm eccentric as it is
and it'd make me freakier
and that House MD never wore one
yes it's boiled down to WWHMDD

Furthermore apparently it takes a certain kind of person to wear them
sinatra was one
...
and i am not *crys*

as with anything you do in life...if you do it and you rock it, nobody is going to question it........at the end of the day, you aren't wearing a tie, you are wearing confidence....if you are going to shy away or take it off the second you get someone's negative comments, you might as well not start to begin with.......I hate it when I see people wearing the same wrinkled long tie in the old half windsor that they never untie just to "fit in the crowd" or seem "professional".....you gotta be confident and do it right, be it in a nicely tied bowtie or a pressed and freshly tied long tie, or no tie at all.....you just gotta own it and people will respect you for it.........

It's all about clip-ons. Nothing says "classy, but efficient" like a clip-on tie.

Added value on psych rotations or in the ED, if for some weird reason you wore a tie there!

My only valuable contribution to this thread is that if you're concerned about your tie spreading germs, look into tie pins/tacks. They work pretty well to prevent your tie from draping all over patients like an elephant's trunk.

It's really, really common at my school. Out of the 30 guys like 6-7 of us regularly wear them.

I think if I wore a bow tie to hospital, my house officer would quietly take me aside and tell me not to be such a douchebag. Well, I would hope so at least.

Thought they were douchie until I moved down South. Now, I kinda developed a thing for guy in bowties. No idea how that happened - didn't see that coming

On that note, you ought to start exploring the world of seersucker as well. 👍

I saw bow ties and Doctor Who was literally the first thing to come to mind. Don't worry, you aren't the only geek.

I also have a little bit of a crush on Karen Gillan. One of the few gingers to do so.

It is a southern thing for sure. I still think it just looks off. We have a few people that wear them around here and it is an instant downgrade in coolness usually. (Aside from Doctor Who...but a time machine and sonic screwdriver can do a lot for coolness)

Karen Gillian is oddly and ridiculously attractive. I don't understand why but hey, there you go.

I've seen a couple profs wear them here, but they're usually a bit older, and looks much cooler on them than it would on say, someone in their 20s. It's not impossible though! (as Matt Smith has proven)

Yea, but is it really the bow tie...or the saving the universe repeatedly while wearing a bow tie? David Tennant had a pretty rockin Doctor Who style without the bow tie. Chris Eccleston in his one season was even cooler with the leather jacket. He was a the time traveling Fonz jumping the sharks with a police call box.

And for him, everything was "FANTASTIC!!". And we're all stupid apes, but we already knew that.
