So, one of the questions I've always wondered as a pre-dent was if we can bowl often as a dentist (ie: in a league)... I love going bowling, and used to play a ton before college, and this was one of the many random thoughts that have crossed my mind.

Anyways, I know there are some things you cannot do as a dentist for fear of breaking some fingers or spraining a wrist or what not, and I'm wondering if this applies to bowling as well.

Thanks! Any input is appreciated 🙂

if you think you are going to break a finger or wrist, then no.

seems like an obvious answer.

Wouldn't you know better than most of us if bowling poses a serious risk to your hands? I doubt many of us are avid bowlers, I could be wrong...

Damn, I didn't think about this. I love to snowboard, so I hate to give it up. Anyone else love to ski/snowbaord?

damn this sucks, so i might have to avoid extreme sports? canyoning, rock climbing, cliff diving are all fun.

Haha, alright well I probably won't be breaking any fingers bowling, but I have twisted/worn out my thumb a few number of times.. I would just dislike it if something minor would keep me out of doing harder work during the week, though I guess I could always procedures later if the patient is willing

As for the person who asked about skiing/snowboarding, I've researched that already because I do snowboard all the time (especially since my university is in norcal.. tahoe >>> big bear 😛). From what I've heard, skiing is a more risky sport because it is much more possible to injure your thumb due to those pesky poles. For snowboarding, I actually found a really sick Dakine glove here that has a plastic cover where your wrist is so you don't break it if you ever fall on your hand (which you shouldn't be doing anyways xP). I tried those out last season and could barely feel anything when I fell, and they also have a wider range of motion than you would think with a plastic piece in it.. They're very awesome 🙂.. Much better than those wrist guards that you have to buy separate and awkwardly fit under your gloves.

I dont know about bowling but I LOVE to rollerblade. When I was accepted into dental school, I cut myself off from rollerblading for a given period of 4.5 years until all was completed. I'm in my 4th year now. I can't wait until I can put them on again 🙂 I think about it frequently

In an interview, the oral surgeon said:

"So, I see you like hockey. Hmm....it's time to start protecting those hands!"

simple solution=practice all procedures using your weak hand to hold the handpieces on your classmates and family. theyre getting the work for free. might as well get something out of it too. haha
