Is it normal to get beat up by BR Physics? I just got my BR books for Gen Chem and Physics after already having gone through TPRH and EK content review. Is it normal considering they have a different teaching style than the other prep books for Translational motion. I completed my first 1/3 of the review questions and missed 3/7 in Passage I. Also, I just completed first 1/3 of the practice exam and missed half for Passages 1, 4, 7 and 1/3 discretes. I feel I should be further along after completing content review with other prep material and doing passages in TPRH's Science Workbook. I had become comfortable with translational motion, but now I see that I am not as efficient as I thought.

I am having the same problem. I thought I knew my physics but apparently not.

BR is tough, don't let it get you down! I still get killed by their passages, but i've been able to raise my PS score from a 7 to a 10-11.

And for emphasis, I just got an 8 on the BR practice test I took. They're tough -- but it pays off for AAMC!

I did my review passages yesterday for translation motion in BR and it wasn't that bad actually. I got around 75% of the 3 passages. I did BR GC stoichiometry today and I thought it was hard. Got 60% of the 3 passages.

Congrats. BR physical sciences are DEFINITELY meant to beat you up. It makes you better prepared =D.

Make sure you never get into the "ugh i give up" mindset, and just always try your best to power through. That way you will learn the most out of your passages. Always be strict on time since that is definitely a crucial component.

Yeah I'm doing BR physics right now and it is definitely hard. I've been getting at least 2-3 wrong on each passage. I haven't taken any practice tests so I have no idea how hard it is compared to the real thing, but people have said it's pretty hard. I take my test july 6th and I'm kind of freaking out.

I was getting like 70% or so on TBR physics and GC. Sometimes lower.

My AAMC PS sections have been between 11-13 in practice.

Trust in 100% in BR - don't let it get you down, it's supposed to be hard. When your done with content review, take a full length adjust accordingly. But until then trust completely in BR - their passages/content will guide you right.

*edit: he could be a she.... hmm don't know if berk is a he or she after sooo many thread of Berks I still don't know hmmm.

I chose female cause Berk's posts are just too sweet and tasty to be anything else.

Thanks everyone. I don't know why I have been so resistant to BR. I should have sold my other books off and picked these up back in August when I was contemplating it. I absolutely love BR because they teach you the information and provide test-taking strategies. Knowing how to approach the problems and using their strategies will get you to the answer more accurately and quickly. I've never been a standardized test-taker, so test-taking skills are important for my success. For any future test-takers, take it from someone who has used GS, EK , and TPRH over the last 3-4 years, BUY THE BR SET INSTEAD. You will save money and time in the long run. I took the test the first time in 2009 using GS and EK (glossing over it) and had a failed attempt. I was in a rush to quickly apply summer 2009 and had a 2nd failed attempt (shot myself in the foot) while semi-studying with my prep books more seriously. This crushed my spirits for 2 years. I didn't use practice tests or passages in either attempt. It is important to take practice test and use passages. This is my last try and I want to do it right. I have used EK and TPRH since August and still scoring low to mid twenties. I feel more confident that BR will help me get that 30+ and possibly 35+ that I seek. BUY BR REVIEW SET!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍

Do people typically not use elimination to narrow down their choices? Seems like doing so would be an obvious tactic for any multiple choice test.

What I think people do is get in the mind set of: Which answer is write/let me do the math to figure it out. Instead of: which answer is wrong. This is easier using extremes and conceptual knowledge. Many people don't even look at the answers and just jump into the math or go searching in the passage. College didn't teach us this since their multiple choice was usually very close for ex:
a)1.2
b)1.1
c)1.4
d)-1.2

I guess I don't really have a perspective on how to take mc exams other than my intuition because we didn't have multiple choice in college.
