Has this happened to anyone? I'm planning on applying for the 2008 cycle and I'm already nervous about interviews. I don't want to be asked a question and reply with "uh, I don't know." :scared:

dont worry you can get a good idea of questions that will be asked by browsing through the interview info people posted...basically all schools ask the same things..out of 5 interviews, i was never unprepared for a question nor asked an unusual one...before you reply just dont be afraid to pause and think of a logical answer..interviews aren't as bad as you think just be yourself and you'll be fine...the hard part is getting the interviews..good luck😀

although i thought i gave a stupid answer when NOVA asked me what would be one weakness about me that my friends would say...i said they would say i should party more hahah its the honest truth..i wanted to kill myself after that but i got accepted so i guess they didn't care😀

little things like that can happen...but the interviewers know that the situation can be stressful, and they're very nice about trying to alleviate the stress. it happened during one of my interviews, and the interviewer just said "I'll give you some time to think about that one, and we'll go back to it." so they're understanding. and most of the interview questions aren't grilling...they're prety conversational. i would say don't worry about it, the best advice is to be confident in your answers.

@ NYU i was asked a question and i couldn't think of how to answer it...so i told them "can we get back to that question?" and the interviewer had no problem w/ that. We then ran out of time during the interview and couldn't go back to that question. But at least we did an extra question in which i was able to answer so much better.

and yes i did get accepted. So don't worry if u can't answer a question during the interview. They probabily won't mind if u say "can we get back to that question later? I need to think about it." But do it only once

Yeah, you know what happens when you get a brain fart, you look like an imbecile and you don't pass the interview.

At NYU I told the interviewer I didnt understand the question, he then explained it to me, what he was asking again, and I still didnt understand. Then he took about 5 minutes doing a long speech about my life and how I applied to dental school, then he asked what he wanted so I told him, but still didnt answer his question. then he was like, lets just move on.
What do you know I got into NYU. So if you cant even answer a question you can still get accepted.

don't be nervous...after your first interview you'll see that it's pretty routine. I actually farted at a couple of my interviews because they were so boring.

Um...what was the question

well, at least a brain fart during an interview is probably better than an anal fart during an interview

dont stress it, go in there thinking your da **** and just have answers to all possible questions. there are lists of questions on the site and usually its all the same. if your asked something you don't know the answer, just ask them to clarify it and use the run around method. start talking then divert to another topic. one thing i found interesting is that at all interviews i went to, the person loved to talk so why not use that time to ask them questions and let them blab and blab that way you waste their time and then u can ask them questions with specific details, which makes you look good and also makes you seem as if you really want to attend that school and that specific program. also ask them what they do, then say afterwards how you want to specialize in that field and how you hope to learn so much from them as your future mentors lol. i did it and it worked for me, just hustle your way and your in.

Um...what was the question

I think it was something like how did you choose to become a dentist. Or why did you decide to wait to apply to dental school.
I dont really remember. It doesnt really matter. It was something I should have easily been able to answer but couldnt for some reason.😕

if they ask a question u can't answer... start telling a joke...

"Knock Knock."

"Who's there?"

"I'm up."

"I'm up who?" (it's only funny if you say it aloud... hah, it gets me every time.)

i'm only kidding. but yea, interviews are usually pretty chill. UCSF, UCLA, and UOP were hands down the chillest people i've ever seen. harvard was the only "real" interview i had. typical questions like why dentistry, why harvard, what are your strengths and weaknesses, blahblahblah. i've heard arizona's is pretty crazy, and that's cuz they drill you with questions on trivia and ethical scenarios.
