I've been looking at many programs, and 'Deis looks great to me, based on my preferences and needs.

- Liberal arts at the school also? Check.
- Smallish program? Check.
- Diverse student body? Pretty much.
- Good volunteer opportunities to keep clinical skills up? Check.
- Good tutoring and support? Check.

My problem?

Damn, that's expensive stuff. A smaller problem is that there are linkages only to GWU and Temple, two schools I know next to nothing about.

Anyone have tales of success and wonderfulness at Brandeis -- or even better, tales of good student loans?

Hi,
I went to brandeis undergrad. Did you talk to Jennifer Lewis. She's the person to contact for the post-bacc program. The problem is that the pricing of the courses is based on the full price for the traditional undergrad. I'm not doing it because of the price. You can still take courses as a special student under the graduate school of arts and sciences there. Another reason is that you will be taking courses along with the traditional undergrad so if you are significantly older it may make you really feel like one🙁

Jennifer told me that they do have a high success rate there were only couple of instances of people not getting into med school since they didn't put the effort required. The good thing about this is that they don't have a specific minimum GPA requirement to apply unlike places like Boston U, but the applicant GPA tend to be over 3.0(surprise! duh!).

I did the Brandeis post-bacc program from 2003-2004 and it turned out great. It's expensive as all hell but they do help you along alot. Everything from courses to applying to interviews, they really have a good program (with a really high success rate from what I remember). I went summer to summer right after I graduated undergrad so it was a little rough giving up the free time but honestly... you better get used to it in med school. I ended up with a 3.5 ish GPA I think with a 34 on the 2004 August MCAT. I got into basically all the schools I applied to with the exception of Yale and Harvard but I'm not loosing any sleep over those. You DO NOT have to stick to the schools Brandeis is affiliated with and its probably better if you don't. To keep up the requirements they want for their programs you might as well just apply to where you really want to go because you'll have the scores to do it. Good luck with wherever you go.
