General Admissions & OTCAS Brenau University' Weekend Program

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I applied as well. I sent everything in last month. I received an email saying that they completed the first round of file reviews and they just notified me of the prereqs that I needed to fulfill. Good luck you guys, and lets stay encouraged until this process is over!!🙂🙂🙂

I applied, too! Have you guys heard anything back yet?
I did receive an invitation to an interview with them. I'm so excited but apprehensive at the same time. Good luck to all of you and hopefully we all make it through.

I applied for the weekend program... I recieved an email for June 23rd interview date. Anyone else for that date??

Also does anyone know anything about their first come first serve acceptance process?

I'm also part of the June 23rd interview. how are you preparing for it? I'm drawing blanks whenever I try a mock interview lol. Are you local or from out of town.

I was told that you have to have at least a 3.40 or above to be considered at Brenau University? Can anyone explain

She told me not to apply until my grade point average is a 3.4. I don't understand. I just believe she should have told me that before I applied last time.

Yaay I'm from GA too. At the open house I went to there were quite a bit of 'out of towners'. Most of them were COTAs too which makes me nervous since I'm not lol

Congratulations on your interview!!! Did you complete all of your prerequisites for the program, if so where did you take Medical Terminology?

Does everyone get an opportunity to interview if they applied? I am getting a bit nervous since interviews are already scheduled and the deadline hasn't even passed!!!:eyebrow:

Congratulations on your interview!!! Did you complete all of your prerequisites for the program, if so where did you take Medical Terminology?
I have a few prereqs to complete including medical terminology. I've been trying to find it in my local community college but haven't been successful so far. I will post here if I find a class and if you do I hope you share it with me too. Cheer up..there will be more interviews scheduled. When did you apply?

Lol, I was bummed because I was literally planning the next steps in completing my prereqs and coming up with a budget to pay for them before I read your post!!!

When I saw it I was like man!!! WTH, I just wasted my entire morning. Lol! Chattahoochee tech is offering a medical terminology course online for the fall. University of Central Florida and Valdosta State also have an online medical terminology course, which will cost $795 with 6 months to complete the course.

Thanks for the encouragement, all hope isn't lost, Lol!

All is def. not lost. I think I applied early. What about research methods? I have to take that as well and still looking for class.

if I were you guys I would look for online community college classes. They are way cheaper than taking an extension class or a class from a state school. I had to take online kinesiology and found a community college that was offering it in my state. It was hundreds of dollars cheaper than if I took the online class at University of New Mexico for example.

I've never been to an open house andIm not an COTA either. I hope that's not indicative of what our competition is. Ha

Well, we had to introduce ourselves and current professions. I just noticed most of them were COTAS and very familiar with the practice of Being an OT. That is definitely our competition lol..

I'm currently in Brenau's Norcross day program. I just started in May and I did not have a 3.4 gpa. The minimum requirement is a 3.0.
The admission counselor told me not to apply to the program until I have a 3.4 or above. My feelings were really hurt when she told me this. I've been talking to the admissino counleor since last year and I've explained to her what my situation was. My you please tell me your stats. My grade point average is a 2.884 right however I'm taking summer classes which will bump my grade point average to a 3.0. I'm also enrolled in fall classes.

Did anyone else get an invite for an interview and/or got accepted to the weekend program? The wait is so nerve wrecking!

To the best of my knowledge June 23 is the first round of interviews. I'm not sure how long after the interview we will be informed if we made it in or not. I hope this helps.

I just applied May 14, I called and they told me that she did a quick look at my transcripts and said your application is not as strong as you think. Then not two weeks later after she said that, June 1st my application was verified, I just received an email two days ago asking me to come for an interview on July 21st. She had hurt my feeling at first and I was very upset because I thought my application was very strong. I have a 4.0 GPA for my BACHELORS . Had a 3.5 -3.6 for ASSOCIATES, but I was in Nursing years ago and did not like it and in one class received a D and it dropped my GPA down to a 3.1.8 I think she had seen that and figured there was no way. My overall was a 3.2 , which I don't understand. But I forgot to add a school to OCTAS and I sent it to Brenau, I had two A's. I think that brought my overall above a 3.4. I really think my background and references got me in. I only did 60hrs of service. I am not sure though but I got an interview. I also got into USciences for 2015. I deferred it from last year. I would love to do the weekends. Do you know what type of interview questions they ask? Or the writing sample? If so can you give me an idea , that is the only thing that makes me nervous. Thanks

MakingMoves201-------They told me the same thing. They looked at my Associates transcript and my overall GPA. It was 3.18. which is not great but she did not look at my entire application. I had 4.0 for my Bachelors, during my Associates I had a 3.5-3.6 but I had been in nursing which I was not crazy about, which could of been because of the school and teacher I was not crazy about and got a D, in one class which brought my overall down. I also did not tell OTCAS about one school where I took two course and receives A,s in them, which I told them. I believe it boosted my overall above a 3.4. But what I'm trying to say, she did not look at my application which showed I have an EMT license and a lot of other things that make me a qualified for the school. Her telling me I should really not give my spot up anywhere to come to there school, was hurtful. I was already accepted in USciences, a great school, but I put in for a deferment because I would rather do a weekend program because I have a family. Anyway a week after my application was verified, I was asked to come in for an interview. So, I think you should apply, when you get a 3.0.It does not hurt anyone to try. So don't let someone discourage you from applying because you do not have the best GPA. I know people who are brilliant and still have not got into OT school. You may be a genius but no personality. They are looking at the whole individual. You may have life experience that someone else does not, and that may just get you in. I would apply once you have the requirement of 3.0. Because it is standard for most Graduate schools. Good Luck!

Hey, sorry it I'm just now responding. But I like the program. It's hard work but the professors are great. The program is expensive but yes I feel I am getting my money worth bc this is a lifetime investment for me. This is really what I want to do. I can't say if it I feel it's worth it vs going to another school bc I can only speak of our program.

Thank you for sharing this! I will be entering the program for the Summer cohort that begins May 4th and I am both excited and nervous. I have began studying for clinical anatomy so that I can be a little less stressed during the beginning.
I hope all continues going well with you and that we can all stay in touch!

Congratulations. I didn't know they had already begun sending out acceptances. I thought interviews did not begin until next week. My advice is enjoy your time now while you can. lol.

Thank you! Since there were too many applicants for the weekend program, Professor Fowler offered me a guaranteed spot for the summer program. I turned everything in, just waiting until May!
Is it result much better after the first semester like most schools (because of clinical anatomy)?

Hello Curios Lady,

I, also accepted a spot in the summer cohort as well. Did you have any issues on getting your loans to cover your tuition?

I was in group 3 but switched to the 1st one where we had to write first! Good to know of someone who will be there at the same time in May! Hope we can stay in touch!

Are you all talking about the May 2015 class in Norcross? They are still interviewing as of December 9, 2014. I would have thought that was filled. What about summer 2015. Anyone accepted there?

Yes we are. I would have thought so too! Do you plan to attend in the summer?

Has anyone applied to Brenau's weekend program?
Hi,

I have not applied yet but I was wondering if it is necessary to have experience as an OTA. I just graduated with a psychology degree from Kennesaw State and I only have 100 hours of volunteering work, my GPA is a 3.5, and I am planning on taking some of the prerequisites at Brenau. I am stressing out 🙁

BREATH, don't even begin to let this process begin to stress you out!!! It won't do any good! You don't need to have experience as an OTA, I also have a bachelor's degree in psychology. I was accepted into the summer 2015 cohort, and with work it took me about a year and half to get all my prequistes done and gather all of my observation hours. You have a competitive GPA, just come up with a strategy to set yourself apart from the what you think the application pool will be like and go from there. Set goals as far as when you want to complete your prereqs, complete your hours, and so on. Takes things in strides and don't freak out.

I would probably recommend that you take your prereqs at a community college, where it would be whole lot cheaper than brenau.
