Hi everyone,

I've previously posted about post bac applications and have really appreciated all the comments I've received.

I've just been granted an interview for the Bryn Mawr premed postbac and I was wondering if anyone had advice for me. What sorts of questions I should be able to answer, what kind of atmosphere, what to wear, what they focus on for admissions.

One specific issue:
I know that my weakness is direct healthcare experience (I spent a lot of time doing health reporting for a newspaper and then some personal family experiences), any advice about how to answer questions about this? My first inclination is to just be very candid about it and admit that while I haven't had a lot of experience working in healthcare, I've been exposed to it on different realms of my life... ideas?

Help please! 🙂

What does exposed to it 'on different realms of my life' mean? If that means your parents are doctors, that won't cut it. If it means you've had medical problems yourself and subsequently developed a complex relationship with the healthcare community, that could potentially work if you speak in enough detail and with a high degree of fluency. Your reporting will probably help you and Bryn Mawr might just decide to let you get clinical experience while you're in the program, rather than demand it of you now.

As far as interview tips go, I've responded several times with my comments in other threads recently. Check out the 'Bryn Mawr '09-'10' thread and the 'Happy to answer any questions about Bryn Mawr' thread. If you have more specific questions, shoot me a PM.

I just had my interview. It was on the phone and was pretty simple. The interviewer spent a few minutes describing the program, then asked just a broad question of, "So what led you to this point in your life/ this decision?" or something along those lines. Most of the questions she asked during my answer were based on my resume or follow-up/clarification on something I'd mentioned. Towards the end she asked how I knew that medicine was the career for me, and some pointed follow-up questions.

There might be more than one person doing interviews, though, with different styles.

There weren't any trick questions, and it was pretty relaxed and conversational. Just have good solid reasons for why you're doing what you're doing.

All in all it lasted about an hour. They don't tell you whether or not you've been accepted at the interview, obviously, but they'll eventually mail a reply saying you've been accepted, rejected, or one of two deferred options. I was deferred, but pretty much bombed the interview anyway and am going to Penn now.

Best of luck!
