i applied as a transfer for next fall and was accepted to the university of rochester and boston university for my undergrad. which is better? i hear rochester is one of the best schools for pre-med (or pre-dental in my case). does that mean it will be more competitive because science im havin trouble with science courses right now. and if a school is supposed to be "good" does that mean that their professors will be good, which means an easier time studyin and higher test scores both in class and on the dat?

Personally, just for the (comparatively) better weather, I'd go with Boston. Either place is going to prepare you well for dental school, provided you put enough effort into it.

What I have noticed is that dental schools don't put too much care into the "name" of your undergrad school. They care more about your GPA. My suggestion is, go to the school where you feel you will be able to have a great GPA.

If I had to go back and do it all over again, I would have chosen an easier undergrad school because then my GPA would have definitely been much higher. However, my undergrad school did prepare me well for both dental school science and the DATs, so I guess it's all relative.

GOOD LUCK!

thanks for the advice.....at this point i only hav bu and univ of rochester as my 2 options for transferring since i already applied and was accepted....i heard bu has grade deflation, does ne one kno if thats true (espec in the sciences?)......and since rochester is a real good premed/predental school, will that mean the kids are a lot smarter adn thus it will be harder to obtain better grades?

Interesting that you said this...a family friend is a student there and although he doesnt take science classes, he has bitched that BU has grade deflation. I always thought he was looking for an excuse, but now that you mention it...

I think you'll be fine either way as far as dental school admissions goes, so long as your GPA is good. I've stayed at both schools multiple times, and while Rochester is actually the more selective school, I'd go to BU. I found very little to do in Rochester, and the students were just OK, though I really liked the campus itself (large campus size to student body ratio). I sensed that everything about UR was just 'enh.' Haven't heard anything about grade deflation at BU. The students really seemed to like it, especially those in the Honors program.
