+pity+ Hey guys.. I been reading a lot of information from the forum.. but still have no clue which school is the best for me.. I have 6 interviews, but because I'm officially accepted to BU.. so I cancel few interviews ( Temple, and Pittsburgh.. Don't think I'm going to the NYU's interview too.. ) I'm still planning to go to the UOP and Columbia interview..

Before I applied, I really wanted to go BU cause it is internationally known and its environment?Kand Boston is definitely a place I won't mind staying for four years.

But lately, people been telling me, if you got accepted to Columbia, YOU ROCK>> !! what ever that means.. Is Columbia that much better than BU.. ? What about UOP?? Should I try hard to get in? And if I do get in..? which one should I go?

The deposit for BU is 3000 nonrefundable.. meaning if I were to change schools.. 3000 $$ Bye bye.. ouch.. quite alot of money

P.s : I'm thinking about specializing, and I'm not a big fan for research.. Anyone out there can give me any advice?K I would really appreciated?K
😍 😕 😍

If you really like BU then go there. But do keep your options open. Columbia is internationally known too (if thats important to you). No one school is the best in the world, however there are perfect schools out there for each individual.

BTW, dont take my word for it, but I think you need to do research to improve your chances for getting into a specialty.

hey dude,
go to columbia, it's a good school known internationally... good luck bro.:horns:

You'll have an easier time standing out at BU then at Columbia and UOP. Of course I'm biased.

I was told that 98% of the students who attend Columbia specialize afterwards.. If that was true.. I don't need to stand out to specialize , right? And for UOP.. I think you are right ..👍 its a hard school to get in, and only 20% go on to specialize .. same % as Boston.. humm.. 😕

dont stress too much about statistics, numbers, and percentages in regards to students and specialties.

Consider what is best for you and what is not in terms of the methods of how classes are taught, the resources are available, and the best methods for you to learn. If you go to a number one school but their philosophy does not match yours, you might be able to adapt, but you might not, or you might be able to adapt but would not like it so much.

Also, consider where you want to be after you graduate, and the cost of the education, UOP is an accelerated 3 years program, so consider if you want a compressed program or the traditional 4 years. Consider the cost of tuition, BU's tuition is very high.

Hope those few points help.

Regards,

You're about Columbia...reason why BU people don't specialize is that we're pretty much a GP orientated school. Most of us, including myself, just want the DMD and then start working.

Thanks Westside22, 😍
That really is something that I should focus more on. For me, I like the traditional way of learning .. don't mind some problem-base learning classes, but just some, NOT ALL.. I know USC and Harvard is all about that..
As far as BU, UOP, CU.. they are pretty similar right? 😕

To discount UOP or BU because only about 20% specialize is not fair or accurate. That would be fair if 100% of the students from each school try to specialize. For UOP, I know this not the case; of those students at UOP that apply to a specialty better than 90% of them are accepted. I do not know what the parameters are as far as what specialties, and if that includes AEGD and GPR.
