I know that both schools are known to produce respectable clinicians and are located in Boston. BUSM seems to have a higher ranking but when I talked to some of the doctors, they seemed to prefer Tufts. What is the pros and cons of these two schools? if you had the choice, which one would you choose?

I was thinking about starting a thread like this today! I am wondering the same thing. If I got accepted to both, I believe I'd have a certain dilemma.

I've heard more positive things about Tufts than BU. I love Tufts' location and I get a better feeling about their curriculum. The only downside is the price tag, Tufts is one of the most expensive med school tuition in the US!

they're pretty similar schools. BU's ranking boost is a result of federal funding for the bioterrorism lab under the auspices of the school. for residency applications, they're both midtier places where you'll get a good education. BU is located in Roxbury, where housing is a little cheaper but not terribly safe. Tufts is located in Chinatown, with slightly more expensive housing but slightly safer. Chinatown at night gets a bit icky though, but during the daytime, there are rarely issues. Tufts is probably slightly more convenient to public transportation. Tufts has NEMC, st elizabeth's, Lahey, Faulkner, and newton-wellesley and baystate as it's primary affiliations, while BU tends to rely on BU med ctr and boston medical center. tuition is comparable, with both schools leading the rest of the nation.

six of one, half a dozen of the other. visit both schools and decide then where you could see yourself landing daily.
