Does anyone know the budget (tuition, fees, room and board, and all other expensis) for Temple?? I think the first year for Tufts is somewhere around $72,000 for those with off-campus housing. Is Temple about the same for a first year student living off-campus?

I would like to know the budget as well. How much is the tuition and fees exactly. I dont think its as much as tufts though. Boston is a lot more expensive. If someone can also let us know what the D1 schedule is like (e.g. normal day schedule, and vacations we get). Thanks!

For an out of state D1, tuition and fees are roughly $48,000... now room and board, i have NO CLUE.

so just tuition and fees is $48K? i saw that as well but i wasnt sure if they were including room and board with that. I found out about the time off that we might have next year. They said we will find out our schedule during orientation and last year (2005-06) they got Dec.13th -jan 4rth off for winter, a week off for spring break, and july and august off for the summer. but she said that was last year, it might change this upcoming year.

I was wondering about housing costs as well. Also do you happen to know when orientation for new students and when classes begin?

Hey guys,

Anyone heard any news from Temple after sending in the 2nd deposit? I received a confirmation email from Terry Griffin, but no mail since. What's the next step regarding financial aid, using the PIN number, etc?

I got in there, not so sure if I am going though. I have decided to go to the cheapest but havent told any of the schools yet.

WVU's yearly total is 30k so if Temple is 70k that will make that decision easy.

I just got back from Philly and I spoke to the financial aide lady at Temple and she said that we could get up to 64 thousand some odd dollars per year in student loans. That was for an out of state person. So, I guess the budget per year for Temple is around $64,000.

Thanks so much I just sent in my second deposit but have not recieved anything from them. They did say in the exceptance letter that we should take a histology course over the summer. Is anyone thinking to take the course and if so where?

I was there on last Friday, and the secretary was just photocopying the housing lists off to send out. I think their goal is around April 1. She said that the housing lists had some students 'experiences' living in those apartments. So you are basically getting a recruiting letter for these suburbs/apartments.

I would take their advice.... histo isn't the hardest subject in the world.... but couple that with biochem and the resto class and it sure won't make it any easier. I took histo last year at a medical school grad program.. but check your local colleges for any summer courses in animal histo... even if it is a lower level course. Just having any experience of seeing the stuff will help out big time. worst case scenerio would be to pick up a cheap histo book and I still have all my scribe notes from when I took it along with the lecture powerpoints.... i'd be happy to pass them along to anyone. I also have the most UBER cd known to man for histo.. its called Histology Time.. that cd makes it so you don't really have to be looking through a microscope for hours at a time... you can look at the same exact stuff on your monitor.

yeah...histology was a pretty good course. i took it in undergrad last spring. lecture was pretty straightforward, just with tons of details to keep straight... lab was a bit tougher as it seemed my professor purposely chose slides that had to have come from pathology or something...they were horrible. knowing the characteristics of different regions makes it helpful in lab...such as when you see ciliated psuedostratified columnar epithelium...there's only certain places it will be and if you know certain other things to look for such as hyaline cartilage--life becomes much easier! my professor was like a drill instructor in teaching us this stuff but she provided some amazing resources for us to utilize in our studies... there are some med schools that offer great online quizzes for histo--i highly recommend looking for these--i think iowa had a pretty good one. the thing about histo is just details, details, details! i found it fairly fun though, except for the lab exams ;-) good luck if you're taking it over summer :-D

wow, thanks a lot. I was really teatering on the idea of taking the course but I think i am definately going to try to search a class out for the summer.

does temple require you to take histology or do they reccommend it?

Housing is pretty cheap in Philly compared to other places in the east coast. You can find many places for rent on craigslist. I lived at Summit Gardens for 2yrs(nxt door to summit park), it was a great place to start, but it had its flaws. Rent was $725/mo for a 1br 750sqft everything included except elec which came to about $20-35. I know other people moved downtown, for places around $500-1000/mo with all utilities mostly included.

Just make sure you start your search early since most of the nice+cheap places disappear quick.

UF college has a medical histology tutorial, thought it was great. just google it and you'll find it, has quizs and histology word reference bank as well. Niceeee

Leia05 thats a great website, the magnification component to the website is awesome. my nerdy self could spend all day looking at this stuff!

i'm glad you like it 😀 it saved my butt plenty of times when i had a lab practical 🙂 i like the histo sites that not only give you good practice looking at slides but also give you a summary of why it looks that way...like defining characteristics and such...if you want i'll try to dig up some other sites i used way back when haha

i really wouldn't worry about histology. it's actually one of the easier classes we had so far. the profs are very nice and they're not out to get you. i'm not sure why they recommend it. just relax for the summer.

so is biochem the hard class or is it the shear volume of stuff you get for classes that makes it tough.

got my packet today.... nice and thick! could they put anymore realtor profiles in there???

got mine too. I'm looking to buy though...three bedrooms for 200K!!

😱

Histology is one of the funnest classes I have ever taken. Can't wait.

my wife and I own a house now an hour away from school, we are putting it on the market in a month and looking to rent. To much of a hasle with all the stuff you have to do with a house, we've had this house 8 months and threw almost 10 grand into it already.... really don't need that headache in dental school... we are looking to rent in roxborogh. 200k for a 3 bedroom is about the norm i would say.. depending on the area you are looking to buy I hope you like city and property tax becuase they are sure to nail you with both very heavily, plus the fact that 200k in my area an hour away buys you something much nicer than 200k near the city. good luck in your venture! I hope you find waht you are looking for.
