I don't have a good answer, but I know it's better now than it will be in 4 years when D'youville's mill pumps out their first batch.
Short answer...not good.
Long answer: the three major chains are unable to hire all their interns to positions within the Buffalo district (doesn't include Cat county, rest of Southern Tier). There are offers being given in Rochester. Wegmans only hired a couple of interns, which isn't surprising. I'm not sure how Tops is looking.
Hospital staffing seems to have about normal turnover, although those offers and openings don't typically come out until later in the year. You'll have to look later on for that.
As far as I know, none of the hospitals require residencies for staffing positions. Some of the hybrid positions (anticoag, antibiotic streamlining) will require residency or significant area-specific experience.
Clinical positions are, for the most part, filled with people who aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
Residencies in the area have typically been fully matched, and based on my experience often go to local applicants. I don't know if this is due to program preference or the applicant pool.
All this being said: I don't think it's gotten to the point where its impossible to get a job here, but next year isn't going to be pretty.
