I believe the Health background form is due by 9/1. It was in my acceptance confirmation.
Are you talking about the acceptance letter because I'm not seeing it. I got the 6/30 deadline from the pre-orientation packet.

It's the letter they send you after you accept their offer of admission online. The subject line was "Admission Acceptance Confirmation".It talked about other things you needed to do like criminal background check/housing/orientation/financial aid.

You're right about the pre-orientation packet saying all required items are due by 6/30. So now I'm confused.

🙁 meee toooo -- has no one really declined their spot???

Come on people- decline your spot!!!!!
You don't want to live in Buffalo. It cold. The sports teams suck (well the Bandits make the payoff but they got tossed early this season). There's lots of snow. See...you want to decline and give your spot to us wait listers

I talked to a student in a summer class I am taking. She said she heard that it hasn't really moved. i don't know if she talked to UB or anything.

Seriously it seems like I know a ton of peple on the waitlist. I know it can't be that large (you said 30 and maybe up to 15 more) but between the people I know and the people here, it seems huge.

Another thing I realized - a lto of people o \n the UB wait list was going to St. John Fisher. But I'm on the waitlist there too

does anyone know what their exact class size will be? because theres already like 110 people in their "invite only" facebook group lol...which makes me think the worst. I'm close to giving up on UB, if I don't here from them by like the middle of June, i'm signing a lease in ft. lauderdale and kissing this city goodbye!!! hahaha

lol -- how annoying!! What happens if you sign your lease and they call you right before school starts?? Would you come back?

I've seen a few numbers around - 120, 125. So somewhere around there. That makes me feel horrible if their facebook group is 110. Hopefully some (most ) of those people really want to go somewhere else and are accepted at their dream school and therefore decline and make room for us

I will be pissed if I don't at least get an interview. Keeping us hanging like that. If I have no shot then reject me already. (Though I guess being on the wait list is better than rejection. I was rejected 2 years ago without an interview) You're in the same boat as me, right? Wait listed before the interview?

I guess I would break the lease, I won't be leaving until the last week of july so if they call me before I leave then I would stay, but if I'm already down there and they call me I would stay in FL.

I hate this!!! :scared:

Yea I'm waitlisted before interview at UB 🙁
I'll keep you posted if I hear anything, good luck!:xf:

How do you have access to the group? BTW, I don't think everyone who've been accepted joined the group yet but on the flip side, not everyone in the group are in the c/o 2013 (i.e. some are P1's and some are admins).

I don't have access to the group, i searched it on FB and it said like 109 members... it allows me to see the members and yes out of that 109 there are like 3 administrators and I noticed a few pharm students that are not in the class of 2013, and it shows that like 6 people have been invited to join the group but haven't responded. So yes I'm stalking your super exclusive invite only cool kids FB page 😛 and I can tell that the class is almost full.

... its sad that i get more information from a FB page I don't have access to than the actual school.....UB has been keeping me in the dark since I was waitlisted in December.

That's not what I meant. :d

I just didn't know members of a private group was visible to those who weren't active members but that's good information. 😀

I know you didn't, I'm just bitter...can you tell?? hahaha
I started getting alumni donation letters from UB the other day and it really made me mad!!! 😡 I'm not in a good mood!!!!

Maybe (hopefully) a lot of those students declined ub but did not leave the facebook group. Or will decline soon.

I know, grasping at straws

does anyone know what their exact class size will be?

According the PharmCAS (they updated their site with a new layout on the school pages)

Estimated fall 2009 entering class size including early assurance & transfer seats: 126

they also have a spot for "Estimated number of early assurance students advancing to the professional program" and other info (out of state, transfers ,etc.) but they did not give a number yet.

Just one quick question regarding tuition fee. It says tuition fee is around 16000/ year, with all the expenses, living...add up to 36000/year. Then at the bottom it is stated that +13000 for out of state students. Does it mean this 13000 is added to the tuition fee or is it added to the expense?

the expenses is just an estimate really, there's no way my living and all that extra stuff is 20k. maybe if you had a really nice place to live...anything they say is going to cost more for out of state people is for tuition only. my rent isn't any cheaper than someone from out of state.

nothing yet?

anyone know when the people who were waitlisted before the interview were interviewed last year? (if they did that last year)

zn1988 where are you getting these figures? I know the actual tuition and fees for fall have not been released yet (or am I wrong?) And even thugh it's an estimate I only see a +7,900 extra for out of state students.

If you read last year's thread, there were two people (waitlisted after interview) who were accepted at the end of May and at the beginning of June. If you haven't had your interview yet, you're most likely going to have to wait until July.

BTW, the numbers you see on PharmCAS seem like the same numbers from last year. I would just take those numbers with a grain of salt.

does anyone know if the early assurance people have had decisions made yet? grades have been in for a couple weeks now.... just wondering if that could free up any spots..😕

I emailed UB to make sure that we didn't have to send in transcripts from spring 2009 (we don't) and Cynthia Acara said "We do not have an update regarding our wait list at this time." So I guess no movement yet.

Though how many people do you think would mess up the spring semester before they got accepted? I don't think too many.
They already had evo bio, cell bio, chem, orgo part I, physics I, etc so it's not like there's a ton of hard courses left that would possibly bring down their gpa. It's just physics II and orgo II. I would assume that if they did good in the fall then theyt would do fine in the spring.

I don't mean to be rude...
but can we keep this thread for the waitlist info? I get too excited everytime I see a new post, thinking it may be an update.
There is a separate SUNY Buffalo thread..

Thanks 🙂

Definitely. I always get excited for nothing

Though the last update was me saying that UB said there hasn't been any change in the waitlist. Not really good news

I agree! I wanted to post this earlier, every time this is updated I get really excited!! false hope!!! haha 🙂

Welll I do know one girl who didn't make it -- from the fall semester. So if they were anticipating that spot being filled, it's not.
But i don't know how they figure out how many early assurance students will/will not make it, so I don't know if one person makes a difference as far as the waitlist is concerned.
Confusing!!

I'm not sure it would affect the waitlist. I'm pretty sure early assurance interviews around January (according to their site) and by that point UB would already know that the person did not make the gpa requirement.

And I thought this would amuse you guys (and girls). Even though UB is a pharmacy school which uses the PharmCAS system and correctly lists it as "University at buffalo" in the school list, PharmCAS messed it up where you put in schools you attended in the application. There it is listed as "Univeristy of Buffalo." *facepalm*:laugh:

Sorry guys, we dont mean to give any false hope. But we hope you havent lost hope. Seriously, we want you to get in :xf:

Anyone call lately? Any news at all, anywhere?

My email to Cynthia: I would like to inquire about any movement on the wait list and if there is any plan to interview the people who were wait listed before the interview.
Thanks for your continued interest in our program. We do not have an
update regarding our wait list at this time.
Please contact me with any questions.

Enjoy your day,

Cynthia Acara

they are so maddening 😡😡 They really piss me off. Couldn't we ge a little info out of them 😡😡

sooo annoying.

Out of curiosity, I looked at the UB med school waitlist thread in the med forums. I know it doesn't compare, but they have had soooo much movement on their waitlist! And their waitlist is huge, like 350 people! It is also ranked. Maybe UB pharm should learn something from UB med school 😛

Hell I've been looking at other wait lists here and there's a ton of movement. Though in the UCSF thread, there's a ton of people who have said they were not attending but the wait list has not moved that many places. They are starting to get nervous.

Maybe UB is something like that. There has to be more movement then they are letting on. Either that, or the movement involves people who does not post on SDN. But there have been couple people on SDN who have denied or have attending another school in their signature. I mean, every single person who was offered acceptance into UB taking it seem highly unlikely.

Also, is it better to just walk into their office to try to get information. I was at UB a few times within the last couple weeks to talk to their biology department. I wonder if I should have stoped by to try to get information out of them. Though I have sent them a ton of emails and I think I am just annoying them right now lol

Regarding UB med school - med schoo has a great thing called the May 15 deadline. I heard from a friend that if you are accepted ito 4 schools, by May 15 you have to decline all seats but one. That way a single person is not taking up 5 seats. That is brilliant. Why can't pharmacy school have the same thing

Would this be rude or out of line or too forceful to say something like "I would like to inquire about the status of the wait list. Are you going to interview those who were wait listed before the interview? Based on past years, do you think that there will be more people pulled off the wait list. I m asking this because I am trying to plan for the next admission cycle."

I really do not want to sound like I am demanding information, or come off rude, but I am trying to plan when to retake the pcat and figure out when to ask for LOR (I do not want to ask for them and then not end up using them).

I don't think it would be rude or to demanding, and I wish they would give you a normal, helpful response, but based on what's been happening with them I would expect a response along the lines of "there has been no movement yet, and previous years do not determine what will happen this year, we can't provide any more information" etc. etc. etc. I know it's SO frustrating. You will probably get into SJF even if UB doesn't work out! There seems to be a lot of movement in the wait list from what I have heard.
If I were you I would ask for LORs just in case, and worst case scenario, you submit PharmCAS in late August (which isn't late at all, it's still pretty early). You could also take the PCAT in August if you haven't heard anything by then. I'd start working on PharmCAS so it's all done and ready just in case you do have to appy. But I really hope you get in somewhere :xf:

Well, with SJF I can understand. At least they have the traditional "interviewed then wait listed" policy. As opposed to UB which is so confusing.

I've started to apply to pharmcas. Mostly just done the things that don't require payment. I will take the pcat in august.

I will probably not send them a "demanding" email until after the june 30 deadline. I realize it's a little early now

I just sent an email...

I will post the response 🙂

do they still have open hours? I was visiting the biology department the other day and I saw someone waiting in their office.
do you think that if I set up an appointment with Cindy Konovitz (is that even who you make an appointment with?), she can tell me more information? I am trying to plan for the next admission cycle and maybe talking to them will help me.

I would suggest making an appointment with Jennifer Hess instead, she is much more helpful than Cindy.
I haven't heard anything about the waitlist, I'm still waiting with you guys! Hope we hear soon!

interesting. So I sent an email today asking for more information and I got a response from Jennifer Hess saying that I should call her directly if I have any questions.

I'm kinda scared of her, she always gives me bad news, so I won't be calling. Instead just keep waiting...:xf:

What do you mean? Is she the one who kept on saying you have no chance at UB or did she say you are wait listed or what?

I kept on emailing her asking about the status on the wait list. She forwarded my email to cynthia acara and cynthia was the one who sent me generic replies

I emailed [email protected]. I asked for generic information..how many people left on the waitlist, if they anticipate any movement..etc. Then I got an email from jennifer hess saying:
Hi Ellen. Please feel free to call me directly at 645-2858 with any
questions about our waitlist.
Thanks.
Jennifer

Then today she called me, but I missed the call. Her voicemail said..hi Ellen, I know you had some questions about the waitlist and I haven't heard back from you yet. Feel free to call me.

I'm scared to call her! Is she going to yell at me for calling/emailing the admissions office??? Why does she want me to talk directly to her? I'm scared she'll say I have no chance at all!!!😱
