I'm scared to call her! Is she going to yell at me for calling/emailing the admissions office??? Why does she want me to talk directly to her? I'm scared she'll say I have no chance at all!!!😱

You'll notice that people in admissions, whether it's UB or another pharmacy school, are very careful with what they say in their e-mail responses because they're written documents that can be referenced at a later time.

Maybe she wants to speak with you on the phone so that she can be a bit more candid with what's going on instead of having to play the e-mail game. I'd call her back to find out since you're not going to get a solid answer over e-mail.

I don't have access to the group, i searched it on FB and it said like 109 members... it allows me to see the members and yes out of that 109 there are like 3 administrators and I noticed a few pharm students that are not in the class of 2013, and it shows that like 6 people have been invited to join the group but haven't responded. So yes I'm stalking your super exclusive invite only cool kids FB page 😛 and I can tell that the class is almost full.

... its sad that i get more information from a FB page I don't have access to than the actual school.....UB has been keeping me in the dark since I was waitlisted in December.

Now it has 111 members - not including admins. Also 5 have no replied (not on facebook)

So facebook groups membership went up? We are DOOMED!!!

I would be flattered if she went out of her way to call me!!! haha you're lucky! Don't be scared!!! You have such a good chance bc you were already interviewed I totally think you are going to get in! I've already accepted the inevitable and signed a lease in Ft. Lauderdale to go to Nova, however I'm giving UB until the day I leave (July 25th) to call me, after that I'm gone and not looking back!!! 🙄

interesting. So I sent an email today asking for more information and I got a response from Jennifer Hess saying that I should call her directly if I have any questions.

I'm kinda scared of her, she always gives me bad news, so I won't be calling. Instead just keep waiting...

I am waitlisted at UB too and I have been following this thread. This is soooo frustrating. There has to be some people that decline their spot. But I guess we all have to just sit back and wait 🙁

Contrary to what I thought, the people who were waitlisted with an interview are given an advantage against people who were wait listed without an interview. (I thought that the ppl without the interview were interviewed and then compared with those who already were - from both the UB general email and from this board. I guess they were wrong).
So this is good for alenadoma and those who were inteviewed. (Not so good for KristaMPH and me who were waitlisted before the interview)

She said that there has not been movement. Last year at this time, they had gone about 5-10 spots on the waitlist but thery did not have to go to the waitlist at all so far this year.

Well at least we know why we are waitlisted before the interview.
I swear that someone from ub said that those waitlisted after the interview were not given preference over those who were waitlisted before.

I asked her how many people were on the waitlist. SHe told me there were two groups - people that were waitlisted after the interview and people who were waitlisted before the interview. She said there were about 20-30 people in each group.

no I think i'm gonna hang out and see if they ever get to me. My tuition at SJF is due July 31st ---14 thousand dollars. Classes start at SJF August 24th and UB's classes start August 31st. If I am enrolled at SJF on the first day of classes, the tuition is non-refundable. So even if UB decides to offer me a spot, I'd be out over $20k for just one semester.

This is SO messed up. I feel like we're the unluckiest class ever 🙁

Can you talk to the St. John Fisher administration and tell them about your situation (with the two different dates) and try to get your tuition delayed for a month?
I can't imagine them being all gung ho about it but Carla Snell has been really nice. I don't even know if you would go to the school of pharmacy or to SJF administration. Or all they all like I LUVZ MOOOONAY LOLZ SCREWS YOU

Ughhhhh I DON"T KNOW. I'm just so angry. The days go by, and I try and try not to think about it, but I get so MAD!! If I were to tell UB the situation, they would tell me..."we are trying our best..blahblahblah, we understand the situation..blahblahblah" and then if I were to tell SJF they would say that "we understand the situation..blahblah..but, tuition is due on July31 blahblh..."
I feel like we all go screwed over really, really bad. Seriously? NO ONE has declined their spot at UB? there's even been movement at UCSF!!

I'll still be here...just lost hope. I'm pretty much getting ready for the 2010 cycle. I have 2 LOR, will be taking the PCAT in August, editing personal statement, signing up for graduate classes, etc. (I am enrolled in the MA for Microbiology and Immunology at UB for fall 2009)
Unlike last cycle, I will be submitting my application early. I was pretty much last minute last cycle (I wrote my personal statement during the super bowl ) and I have learned my lesson. It will be submitted in mid september. Even that is late for some people, but I am taking the pcat on ausust 22 and I have to wait 4-6 weeks for the scores to come in so there's no point in submitting it in july.

I thought I'd be outright rejected by any school but I was waitlisted by the two I applied to (which means I beat a ton of other people who were outright rejected). I have no clue if x school will like me...it's so frustrating.

I have bugged (emailed) SJF and Carla has said that they have not had to go into the waitlist that much. There has been no movement. I would have htought of more movement htere but maybe since they will be graduating their first class soon and the fact that they are not as new anymore is leading tothem having more acclaim and hence, less declines to go to other schools

As for other schools, still not completely sure yet. I have a narrowed list of 12 - which will be narrowed down some more. A few are LECOM-Erie, Michigan, Ohio State, Pitt - mostly state schools in the northeast/eastern midwest. Though 12 is quite large. I do not want to be the loner on the statistics who applies to 35 schools and gets into none of them

HOLY CRAP!!!!! 😱 $14K???? Well, granted SJF has a small class of students, I suppose early tuition and expensive deposits are their way of making money. But how can they expect you to pay in July?? Did you even receive your financial aid package?

yeah...i received my financial stuff in early June if not May. They were quite quick about it. As for pay due July 31st, its not so bad considering orientation is only 2 weeks away from the deadline. I guess they could be more lenient, but money is nice to have early for most people ;P

I'm finally joining because I emailed the admissions office asking when/if they are going to rank the waitlist and got a response this morning that I thought was worth sharing:


"This following information is important to your request regarding waitlist:

Hello,
We do not rank the wait list. We replace the student(s) who withdraw with
similiar characteristics - it depends on who withdraws."

Anyway, thanks for sharing the information you've gathered in the past. Best of luck to everyone.

We knew that they did not rank the waitlist. We have been discussing how frustrating it is.

But the second part? WTF?!?!?! I feel like calling them just to ask WTF that means

If someone with a 3.3 gpa withdraws, do they take someone off the waitlist with a 3.3 gpa? Or do they mean if a 25 yr old female whp was a pharm tech for 3 years withdrew, they would take a 23 yr old who was a pharm tech for 3 years off the waitlist?

She said that in a couple weeks they will be calling all accepted students just to make sure that hey are coming to orientation. At this time, she said that a couple people might say that they are not going to UB.
So, she said that they might use the waitlist for 2-3 spots after they call everyone.

Pretty much, not much hope for us🙁
