Buffalo SDM Waitlist?
Started by Tiankum
I was wait listed and I'm not sure how theyre treating their wait list. Have you received an email or just an aadsas update?
I found out the same way... through AADSAS. Once I sent an e-mail to the head of admissions requesting information on what to do since the "two week" wait time was over with (I interviewed in Dec too), they updated my AADSAS the very next day. I'm going to call on Monday for info... I'll let you know what they say.
me too
I just found out yesterday through AADSAS update that I was waitlisted as well. A month and a half after my interview when they said it would take two weeks. They said nothing about how the waitlist would work and they sent no email explaining anything.
Hey CRSinick, did you go ahead and send in the check to Ohio?
So I called today and Barbara said that all she could tell me is that I am in the middle 1/3 of the waitlist and that the number of people they pull from the waitlist varies by year...I have found out, however, that they pulled a hefty number of people from the waitlist last year to fill their class. I believe I read that they actually hit the bottom 1/3 of the list to fill all their seats.... so there's some hopeful news to all who are out there waiting for Buffalo.
wow! i can't believe barbara gave you that information.
where did you get the information about them pulling from all the way down the waitlist like that?
i know the letter they sent me said they take a "significant" number of people off the waitlist, and barbara actually said that to me when i called on december 1st.
i had an interview on nov 12 and was waitlisted on december 1
lets keep our fingers crossed!🙂

Holler on being weight listed.

Yeah, significant really does mean just that...I found out some more information through researching different forum threads of previous years. It appears they treat their waitlist just as the med school does. She didn't give any info, however, on how soon they start pulling people from the waitlist... I really would like to know that info.
Also, through researching different databases you can see that there are a pretty good amount of people that have withdrawn from the school and have been accepted elsewhere...a lot of those people were either accepted at Buffalo or waitlisted there...meaning more spaces are going to open up, or have already since the jan 15th deadline has passed...now it's just a waiting game

If you READ the letter they sent to us it says to not expect anything until APRIL, that is consistent with people I have talked to in UB dental right now, that they pull starting in late march/early april and pull all the way up until august!
why would you say they treat their waitlist like medical school?
What does it mean to treat their wait list like med school? Are the ppl who have been wait listed ranked according to their grades or according to the date they were wait listed?

they told us during the interview that we're ranked by a point system comprising of everything including the interview...Looking at the med school forums, it seems like they treat their wait list the same... depending on what 1/3 of the wait list you're on (top, middle, bottom) will give you an idea of the likelihood of getting in. Also... if you want to know what 1/3 of the waitlist you're on, all you have to do is call Barbara and she'll let you know.

well, obviously they're going to tell you some far off date so that you don't call all the time and bug them... but I know for a fact that they process on a rolling admissions after december 1st and that one of my buddies was just accepted two days ago..so...yeah... they're not going to "wait" until april to start filling their class, that would just be bad business.
was your "buddy" on the waitlist or did he have a post-dec 1st interview, because if you had a post-dec 1st interview you hear pretty soon about your acceptance.
if he was on the waitlist and heard this early in the process i would be suprised! good luck

no, because none of us are calling BOTHERING barbara with stupid questions. you are either going to get in or your not, and if what you are saying is factual (doubtful) i would say you were in the middle too to get you to STOP calling
Barbara will tell you what third of the waitlist you are on, factual. Your ranking on the list is important. And a significant amount of people will be taken off of the list well before April, contrary to what is stated in the letter. I was accepted off of it in late January, and I was placed on it in late December. I was in the "top third" of the list. The middle third might have to wait a little longer. But, Buffalo's waitlist is a good place to be. I know a lot of people in our class that came from it. Good luck.....it will come via email.
hang in there everybody, my friend who just finished her first year there didn't even get accepted until the day before orientation! i would hate for this to happen to any of us, but just saying there is always hope. i will be attending ubsdm next year, hope to see you all there

wow, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.. chill out brotha, you'll get in eventually
Cool finding... I'm interning at a place that happens to have a dentist who just graduated from ubsdm this past year. He said he was accepted in june from the waitlist and he was on the bottom third...yeah it was over four years ago, but hey...looks like they've been doing the same thing for a while..just a little thought to give hope to all those who haven't been accepted yet 👍
I know I should chill out too, but I'm getting so anxious....I really thought us waitlisters would hear something from Buffalo by now. I figured they needed to wait to hear back from the 1st round of acceptances...they would be waiting the 45 days to Jan 15th....then they have to wait for mail to come in that's post-marked Jan 15th, so give that a week...then they would be able to start letting people know that they had some room (this week) and that they were accepted. Does this sound right to you guys....any insights?

Hey, the reason I believe when they say April/May for most of the acceptances off the waitlist is because they are STILL interviewing. So even though applicants may have withdrawn an acceptance (Dec. 1st), they still have applicants that are being accepted with post-Dec. 1st interviews and acceptance offers. I am assuming they wait to accept (the majority of their) alternate list applicants until April which is like one month after the majority of their interviewing is done.
I know its a stressful process! keep your head up, if they do decide to take applicants of the alternate list you have no worries being in the "top-third" or whatever that means! good luck 🙂
thanks cellbio, I really appreciate you saying that 😉
"upper third" barbara's words
Their last interview date is Feb 12th. After they digest all of the interviewee's stats and determine their cutoffs and available seats, more acceptances will likely be sent out to waitlisters. I am not sure the number of deposits made vs. seats available at this time, but I would venture to guess that acceptances will go out to those on the top of the waitlist shortly.

theres no need to call her i don't think. she told me when i talked to her that they were already starting to pull from the waitlist and this was last week. again the pulling might be slower now, and then alot more in march/april.
but if you do call let me know what she says! thanks for the updates minotaur! im keeping my fingers crossed for you too! 🙂

I did speak to Barbara today, she said they have started taking people off the waitlist and I still am in the "upper third" (wasn't sure since they have been doing more interviews since I was last told that), on pins and needles waiting to hear about my future....I'm sure everyone else is too. I hear so many different opinions of when people think we will hear something from Buffalo, what is the current consensus....? Seems like it's possible to hear something any day/minute now....since they're working off the waitlist...
