There's a Travelodge across the street from the campus, which I believe is the closest place. It's still a 10-15 min walk to the Admissions building, but at least you don't need a cab. Travelodge's # is 1-800-578-7878.

i stayed at the hampton inn (across amherst campus) for $68/night.
it's a nice place to stay if you're flying in and not planning to use a rental car since they have a complimentary shuttle to/from the airport and to/from UB 👍

Did you want to stay with students? My bro's an MS1 at Suny Buffalo (I assume this is the school you're talking about) - and his roommate's a student host. Perhaps you should contact Mr. Rosso and see if he can put you in touch with an MS1 willing to host - it's a good option if cash is low...
