I just got an interview at Buffalo... Is there anyone here that has already gone to one and has any advice, or anything they'd like to tell me about their experience, the school or anything related to the day they spent there. It will be much appreciated! 🙂

Nope. I know undergrad was nice there at UB... but that's in the pretty, sprawling Amherst North campus. I know relatively little about the "other" side. The crammed together, older city side. Now I'm just bitter 😛

PS. If you read most of my posts. I'm not a very big help.

Well if you go there and are a runner you can jog with confidence on the UB bike path because they caught the "Bike Path Rapist" a few weeks ago. That wasn't very helpful either.

what was your dat, if you dont mind me asking. I'm waiting on buffalo too.

I'm a first year here, and I'm very happy with my choice!! Make sure you check out the interview feedback on UB if you haven't already; that should offer some insight on how past applicants have viewed their interviews. If it's on a week where I'm helping with the tours, I'll be happy to introduce myself!

Take a browse through this and the dental forums by using the "search this forum" button...there's been a lot said on Buffalo and I'd just be repeating the same. If you think of additional, specific questions, just ask! :luck:

Basically, so you know what to expect, I think it opens with a short DVD (probably cheezy) then you'll probably get blabbed to by the director of admissions and some other people. Then the fun starts! Your interviews are before lunch, and when you're not interviewing there will be current students there from all four years who you can ask any question to you want. (I do that every so often, and trust me, we're not on the admissions committee!!) I would really utilize that opportunity and ask about the things you may not want to during your interview...like apartments, what to do for fun, what the student/prof dynamic is like....how stressed they are...that sort of thing. During your interview, definitely seem interested and ask a lot of questions too. Then you have pizza and Buffalo wings, then get a tour of the dental and med schools. It's a really laid back day, and they will try to make it as low-stress as possible. You will probably have two interviewers at the same time, and they ARE famous for seeming to question parts of your application (more than other schools), but it's definitely NOT as serious as it seems at first. Right after the interview, everyone's super laid back and munching on wings. Good luck!

I can't believe you live in Buffalo and refer to them as Buffalo wings! Good recovery at the end though.

I can't believe that either. As a Buffalo native, I call them just plain wings.

Ha! I **almost** added to the end of my post SugarNaCl knows what I'm talking about!

Someday lets open a practice together. We will serve wings on the way OUT the door. 😛

Deal!

Funny you should mention that- my dad's office on Grand Island is located DIRECTLY across from a home-made chocolate store called the Chocolate House. Too funny.

Hmmm... no kidding. Do you by any chance know a Dr. Bonnevie? He practices in Grand Island, too. I think.

I was adding clarity for Buffalo n00b sake 🙂

Where are you from again? HAHAHA... Buffalo nOOb. So, when do you think that this new building stuff is going to take place here? They are planning what all? Renovation of the waterfront, new fed. court building, casino, knocking down the statler to make a "skyscraper". That is a really tall building for the other folks in Buffalo that are reading this and have NO idea what this "skyscraper" invention is. What I want to know is when?! SOme of these ideas have been sat on for so long that the cows have nearly come home. Buffalo is a nice place. It needs this! All hail the waterfront. 😛

Funny you should mention this...I was talking to a local civil engineer about this because as a new Buffalo resident, I was surprised at the unfinished subway line (10 stops and only down Main street 😉 And it looks like it had great plans...computerized everything!), hear about how many people had moved out, and seeing the rebuilding that's been going on all over, especially on Elmwood and Hertel. He went on and on about the Peace Bridge, saying how it has had 20 plans in the last few years and no one can agree. It seems like Buffalo is slowly recovering after the huge industrial closings, but it has a while to go.....sad to see empty storefronts in the trendiest parts of town.

Great time to buy real eastate, though! 😉

I'll second all of this. It is ridiculous and our local politicians (esp when Giambra ran the crowd) ran the city nearly into the ground. I belonged to the same gym as Giambra last year and it took every ounce of will power in me not to start cursing him out when I saw him in the parking lot. Anyway, about the empty storefronts, last September my husband, who has only lived here since May 2005 and I went around downtown (he is a photographer and wanted to take pics.) He works at the HSBC bldg and I work at Roswell so you have an idea of how far we are apart. We walked from HSBC, half way to Roswell on a SATURDAY and the entire time (very nice day out) we saw only 4 people. No stores were open and when we wanted to get a drink, we had to wait until 3pm when Pearl Street opened. CRAZY! I hope it improves. Then again, Buffalo may be one of the only cities that has a subway that runs predominantly above ground. 😛

So true!
If I scrap dental school I can take the money and buy a large old mansion in North Buffalo.
