Business aspect of specialized vs generalized dentistry

Just curious how the business side of dentistry differs from general dentistry to the specialties. Is specialized dentistry easier, harder or just different from general? I’d assume general dentists have to target the population for their practice where as specialists target general dentists. I’d think it’d be easier to be a specialist just because there's less saturation. Maybe that’s not true? Is it easier to maintain the patient pool as a specialist? just dependent on saturation? Thanks!
