Hey guys,
Currently there's a big push in my class to purchase the 12month U-World qbank. Should I do this ...will it really be something I access this first semester? Ugh...I don't know what to do.😱..maybe the six month subscription....

PS: Our lecture exams come straight from the NMBE...:scared:

what's the price difference? It would seem to me getting it for 3 months would be plenty... although you do make a good point that you are lucky enough to have lecture exams from NBME.... damn lucky 🙁

3 months is plenty to do it in. Why would you want it so early? The USMLEWorld questions are all integrated - so it's not like you can even seperate them out by organ system very well. Kaplan qbank is way better for that fact type of learning purpose.

Save USMLEWorld until the later part of your study review when you know all the facts and are really putting everything together. If someone offered me a cheap 6 month subscription to Kaplan qbank for during the school year I'd take that though.

Just to clarify, USMLEWorld is still the best qbank - just don't think there's much of a point going through it before you're most of the way through second year.

Are you supposed to buy it now to prepare for Step I or to prepare for your lecture exams? It would make sense if it's to prepare for your lecture exams, since they're straight from the NBME, and USMLE W is designed to mimic those questions... so if that's the case, it might be helpful. Perhaps ask some second years what they thought of it, and whether or not it was helpful.

I would not want to waste my precious few UW questions on regular old exams. I think they are best used for their intended purpose: step 1 review.

i'm not sure I agree with that analysis... concepts are concepts, and if you really understand the set of concepts that UWorld is helping you master, it doesnt matter if you use a lot of the questions, as long as you are also using them to help you iron out your overall test-taking strategies.

I would think you should have more than enough problems for the school year; there seem to be a lot of recommended sources out there that will also help with second-year concepts (Review of Path, Qbook, WebPath, BSS...)

Is BSS the Lippincott Board Simulator Series?

Yeah, that's exactly how I feel about it too. It just seems like such a waste! Each one is a tiny little nugget of step 1 gold.

If your school gives NBME's do it because it will help prepare you. If they don't, then don't buy it. Wait until you are about 3 months out and use it for step review.

Its way to early, you don't even know pathology or pharm yet and so much of USMLEWorld is integrative.

12 months of UW isn't the ticket to a good step score, which I think is where you post is going.

Yeah...this is the first year that the school will be adminstering NMBE exams...so we'll have to see how that goes...might be tough but hopefully helpful by the time the real thing hits...

Thanks for ya'lls replies 😛

just checking u a 1st year or 2nd year?

SAVE IT FOR USMLE STUDY...I think you can buy the three month subscription and it isnt that much..dont use it for class study..

Man, you'd have enough time to go through U World three times over.

Better to do UWorld once and then a fresh set of questions from Robbins review, QBank and QBook.

You can also get additional questions from the Rapid Review books (each comes with 500 subject specific questions) and USMLE made ridiculously simple (at least 1000 here).

I tried to do all of it, but I ran out of time. Oh well.
