Hey guys,

So, I'm kind of in a tough-bind. I got a C- this semester, second semester senior year. It's good for my undergrad so I'm graduating alright. However, I want to know what it is for medical schools. I got one acceptance and they say satisfactory completion, is this ok or does that need to be a C. Should I even tell them or just wait for my transcript to arrive?

Also, I'm on a few waitlists. Obviously right now I wont tell these schools my grades for this semester. However, if I do get in, should I disclose my grade to them then right away or just wait for my transcript to arrive. This is because, what if the school says its not ok, then I could decline this waitlist acceptance and just go with my other school, but then again, I'm putting myself out there by disclosing. I mean could I not just send a transcript into the school once medical school starts and just hope the admissions office won't do anything about it?

Thanks for your help and yes, I know this was not cool what I happened but it's in the past now and I can't really do too much about it now

Best,
James

I've heard of people anonymously phoning the admissions offices of the specific med schools they are interested in and asking them what their policy is. Different schools have different policies on these things, so I think it's to best to anonymously ask the schools themselves. Good luck.

First of all, check with your college advisor (don't just make assumptions) to see if a C- is a 'passing' grade (in my school it's not). And whether your advisor says 'yea' or 'nay' you absolutely have to check with the school where you are currently holding an acceptance. Most of them define 'satisfactory completion' as making a grade of C or better in your remaining courses. And secondly, call the Dean/Director of Admissions where you have been accepted and tell them of your situation before you send in a transcript. You don't want any surprises come matriculation time.

Like the previous post said- it depends on the school. I know that Columbia does not take anything below C- and UMMS does not accept any grades below a C. You can check these guidelines on the school website. If you cannot find it there, then give them a call. If you do need a C, you usually have to take it over(i.e. summer) before you matriculate.
