Hey guys...I got a c- in my biology I lab...kinda need some inspiring words....also do med schools accept c-'s upon admission. 😱

Hey buddy! Sorry to hear the news. If you are going to be using it for a pre-requisite to admission, you are going to have to take it over. I think a C is as low as most (if not all) schools go for required courses.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

C- is not acceptable for meds. Please talk to the instructor and see if you can get it bumped to a C.

Maybe ask to do work to raise the grade rather than just asking for the grade to be "bumped".

I'm not gonna be the person to say, "it's alright, don't worry about it, it won't hurt you," because, in all likelihood, it will. But the good thing is you can do something about it: most schools allow you to retake if you get that grade; ask if you can. If you can't, don't freak out; just work your ass off from now on and get A's in anything and everything you take from now on. If you do this, than this C- would come up in an interview question, and you can explain yourself then.

important thing is not to loose hope.

I don't think AMCAS uses +'s and -'s.

So yes, I think your C- will work.

Just make sure this C level work doesn't become the status quo.

AMCAS does use + and - in calculating grades.

I am actually shocked that people here are now saying a C- is unacceptable when so many people here have attested to the fact that they have applied (and been accepted) to med schools with multiple Ds and Fs. Personally I'd be pissed off at anything below a B- but apparently med schools look past a couple poor grades.

I am pretty sure no medical school accepts anything below a C in prereqs. Try to get the proff to bump it up and if that doesn't work, retake it.

C- is unacceptable as a prereq, it says so on nearly every medical schools webpage.

I got a C- in Calc II (my freshman year) and still got accepted to schools.

I completely agree with PsychoDoc. One C or D or even F is not going to ruin your chance at getting into med school. I know several people who have been accepted with Cs or Ds in one or two classes (usually physics). But, as someone said above, just don't make it a habit. Look at this one C- as motivation to work harder.
Good luck to you!

Eh, it's only a lab. Just take the damn thing over again, and this time rock out with your c#ck out. It costs some money to retake the class, but this way, even if asked about it during an interview, you can say "Yeah, it was a fluke. I re-took it to demonstrate my true capability." Sheeeiiit dude, I wouldn't let a lousy bio lab keep me outta anywhere. Kick @ss and take names in orgo, physics, biochem, calc, and then be snubbed at places because of a bio lab grade??? That's goin out like a punk. The bad kind of punk. Not the kind with the mohawk and a bootknife.

Good luck though! Bummer about the redundency/hassle of bio lab!

Well said!!!

I have decided that everyone is a gunner but me....Jk

Anyway...I made Cs in 2 (yes, gasp, 2) pre-reqs. No big deal. Make sure the rest of your app is strong and don't assume that you can go top-ten. Apply to you state school....

You will be fine. You could of course consider retaking....

I'm not sure what your major is, but if the class is required for your major you most likely have to retake the class regardless. Most schools (mine included) won't accept anything below a C (meaning C-, D, or F) in a required major class. Plus it won't be accepted as a prereq for med school at a C- anyway. Does it ruin your chances? Of course not, but it does need to be remedied. Good luck!

not necessarily true. some schools will say you have to have C or above for pre reqs but you can explain it to them, like why you had a bad semester or something. i have gotten worse grades than that and have already gotten into a bunch of MD schools. i sent them a letter explaining what happened and they asked me about it in interviews but i was honest and they were cool and it was no big deal. so dont let it get you down.
