YO everyone. I earned a C first semester of gen chem and an A second semester... How do you guys think adcoms will look at this? Plus, has anyone elese had this happen to them?

thanks

They will probably think you're a cheater. J/K
One C will not ruin your application. I'm sure there is a story behind the low grade, and if not, the A in second semester obviously shows you have applied yourself that much more to studying and learning the material.

You are probably ok, I got a D in the second Gen Chem and got an A in the third one and still got invited to an interview. I am now on a waitlist. I just let them know that there were other factors envolved in the grade and that I was going to re-take it this quarter. There is hope.

I had THE WORST professor in Physics I, therefore I got a C.
I had a better one in Physics II and got an A. Neither was an easy class, it's just that the Physics I professor should not be teaching. His tests were even open book, and the Physics II tests were not.
Anyway an A and a C average to a B, and no one even mentioned it on the interviews I went to. I realize that organic chemistry is more important, but still. Take biochem and do good, and that will help.

I got a B- in Gen Chem I and a C in Gen Chem II. Plus a C in O-Chem II. I got an interview and was accepted. They didn't even ask me about my grades. Don't worry. There is still hope.

i got a "C" in gen chem I and an "A" in gen chem II. Just keep doing good work and the adcoms will look at it as you adjusting to the college/premed lifestyle. it's not a big deal.

ps. i going to med school next year.

I applied to two DO schools (OUCOM and CCOM) and got into both.
I got interviewed at MD schools (obviously they werent as good to me). Currently waitlisted at Penn State.

Ive said this before and I'll say it again just as a 'chill' factor.

Gchem1: B
Gchem2: B-
Gchem3: B

OChem1: F (Retake B+)
OChem2: B-
OChem3: D (Retake B+)

Biochem: C- (Retake A)

Now, before you get to excited, keep in mind I rocked out a 97th percentile in the Biosci section of the MCRAP.

As long as you retake the class, its no big deal to osteopathic schools.

(PS: I should have tried harder as an undergrad and so should you, no matter what your grades are)

Don't know. Gen Chem II is much more useful for med school, but I am not sure Adcom realizes that. Just ace Orgo I/II and you'll be fine. It is better to see a trend up than a trend down. My first semester I had a D in Calc I and a C in Physics I. I retook Calc I and aced it and had a B in Physics II. Just make sure you excel from here on out.

I think you should be fine, as long as the rest of your grades are decent. I got a B- in Orgo 1, B- in Cell Bio, B- in Genetics.... C+ in Orgo II, and was still accepted to 3 DO schools.

I took three chem classes - A, B, C grades (in that order).
Organic chem - B's.
4 bio classes - A's.
3 physics classes - A's.

Applied 3 schools. Interview invite to all 3. Withdrew from one. Interviewed and accepted and the other two.

I was asked about my C in chemistry during one interview.

Good luck!

I got a C in Gen Chem I - but I came back and got an A in Gen Chem II, and all As in Organic. One C will not ruin everything - remember, you're running a marathon, not a race. Just come back from this and do really well in the rest of your chem classes. 😀

Dont even worry about it...I got a C in calculus, B+ in Gen Chem I... over the summer took Chem II, both Bio I and II at a community college (BIG no no but had to, long story)...transferred and rocked upper level Chem and Bios...Rocked the physical science section of MCATs which required math skills...Got interviews at all but two of the schools I applied to...Got in to my #1 (Go Penn State Class of 2009). One C will not kill you, it is all about showing them that you have skills somewhere with something. Hope this helps!
