Hi everyone. I am a CA3 resident at a busy level 1 trauma center seeking a full-time general anesthesiologist position in Miami-Dade or Broward county to start in July/August 2025.
I am looking for a job with a wide case variety. I am happy to take call, happy to do OB, happy to supervise and/or sit my own cases.
Please message me if you're hiring and I will send you my CV.

You're the perfect employee for a group to take advantage of....I meant hire. Since you're so happy to do all those things, then you'll be happy to take it directly in the bum.

Thank you both for taking time out of your weekend to contribute. What did you guys demand from your first jobs out of residency? No call? No weekends? No Fridays? All the above? Does the vaseline rec come from personal experience? Thanks in advance!

In this market, you can demand a set amount of first and backup call. Anything past 5pm is OT. Anything asked which is voluntary over that set amount of calls is paid a stated amount. Then you can’t be abused.

South Florida has always been in High Demand and is the Birthplace of the AMCs. It’s know to take advantage of the new people and to pay crap due to an oversupply of people who want to live there. My recruiter tells me he has jobs for locums down there for $275-290 an hour and they sell like hot cakes which is absolutely wild to me because that is low for locums and some CRNAs are making that much.

As far as the Vaseline I am pretty sure it says on the bottle or somewhere to not use is for sexual activity as it’s not water based. I assume that it would cause some kind of painful issue down in the nether regions due to its consistency as well. lol. But I am sure it’s better than raw digging it!!

Spoken like a true smart ass… ;-) i love it. You may actually survive this crazy life we call the OR.
You have the right attitude for a resident- I think what they’re getting at is that the south Florida market is not anesthesiologist friendly. For the amount of work you’ll do you’ll be paid a little more than half what you could earn elsewhere…. Most jobs start with a 4 👎… which is sucky compared to lots of the rest of the country esp bc it’s all call, supervision, etc. and all PE envision heavy… and napa in Delray very malignant.
All jobs have something sucky about them…. You’ll be underpaid in south florida - your choice. Good luck

I definitely want to avoid PE. I can tolerate the pay cut; nothing I can do about supply and demand. Attendings at my program make ~500 for ~50 hours a week (~3 calls including 1 weekend, all in-house, all supervision). If I can get a similar job in south Florida making high 400's, I can live with that. I know there are docs making 800-900 working in the tundra, 4-5 hours from the nearest airport. Showing off my Patek Phillippe to the waitress at the local Applebees just won't cut it for me though.

The particular *kind* of supervision that's practiced in South Florida is unpalatable for anyone with scruples or self-respect.

Please elaborate. I don't want to do anything unsafe.
I've heard of 4:1 with multiple high acuity rooms (heart, lung). I had multiple coresidents from South Florida who were intent on going back until they saw the reality of anesthesia practice there.

You can’t avoid pe… envision rules all… they pay 410 in boca up to 450 in Jupiter. All their positions were low 400s. Hca pretty much offers the same -450… hca is very crna friendly - they support the aana and I heard they removed all anesthesiologists from admin positions. Team health has a position in Stuart for 480 at Cleveland clinic… they admitted they went over 4/1 supervision but less than 1% if the time. Ccf has a position in vero I wouldn’t recommend - every dr they’ve had has left save one… a day doc who doesn’t take call and has kids in school so can’t leave- pm me if you want more info on Vero. I don’t know if any of the envision sites go over 4/1 but I’m sure they do 4/1 all the time. They are staffed mostly w locums these days

That was my experience having interviewed at multiple Florida sites including Tampa area.

Basically said, while I’d rather live in a low tax state with nicer weather, I’ll take a higher salary by a significant amount more, solo MD practice in coastal area close to 3 major cities under 1H.

I guess we will find out if I found a good job, but I sure know Florida jobs suck.
