I am not sure how to go about "up to xxx characters" option in CAF. Would it make sense to write a mini-essay at every point in CAF where there is such a possibility (ex. up to 510 characters for hobbies and interests section)?

One more question -- any sense of what kind of accomplishments can be included into "other awards/accomplishments" section. For example, I was one of key players in developing palliative care system in a foreign country -- is that an accomplishment🙂)))))?
Thank you for your help!

Keep things succinct as possible. Your CAF is essentially a CV. And people don't like reading long-winded CV's where the essential info is diluted by filler stuff. Your hobbies section should be one sentence. Writing an essay about your hobbies will have minimal impact. For work experiences, just write a sentence or two. If you worked in a community service organization in med school, just highlight what major things you organized. If you didn't organize anything, just sum up in a few sentences, what kind of activities the club organized. People tend to also drone on and on about their research experiences too. Again, keep this brief. 2-3 sentences.

Awards are awards. Don't feel obligated to put "iffy" awards. PD's will sniff this out anyway. Your palliative care initiative is best put under volunteer or work experiences. If you were a key player in organizing this, more power to ya. Definitely make this clear.

I recommend reading through the "CV" chapter in First Aid for the Match book. It mentions "power" words or something. For example, you want say, "Organized activity X" or "Led activity X" instead of "Participated in activity X." You don't have to buy it. Just go to the bookstore and spend an afternoon reading it.

thank you. What a relief!
