How many people do you know that got into Stanford and Cal that went to Stanford?

Stanford is so nice, it doesn't even feel like a real place.

TiggidyTooth said:Higher numbers do not a better school make. If you don't live in the bay area and understand the difference in the locales, you wouldn't understand. Oh, and the reason it doesn't feel like a real place is because it isn't one. You are referring to the habitable bubble world that is Stanford. Great place to raise a family, not to go to college.

Forget it Kikko, no one method is going to settle this. Not now, not ever.kikkoman said:I never mentioned numbers - I think you can compare school qualities by seeing what people who have the choice to go to multiple schools decide to do. Of course, there is a subjective element in each individual choice, but I feel it gives a lot of information.
Rivalries and rivalries, but when it comes down to an important and real decision, where do people go?
And Stanford might not be a "real place," but it's pretty sweet.

TiggidyTooth said:Oh, and I too have a way to end this, but more accurate. How many people do you know who graduated from Stanford and wished they went to Cal, and how many folks do you know who went to Cal and wished they'd gone to Stanford? I think the article cited by the OP can help you figure that one out![]()

jeffsleepy said:I could write down a bajillion reasons when I think Stanford kicks Cal's ass. And in the world of med school applications, grade inflation isn't such a bad thing. 😉
Haybrant said:i was waiting for your ass to reply; anyway, ive met countless others that feel the same way; you should write a letter to the editor on that and ask for the author's to be fired or something...
Haybrant said:...and i could write down a bajillion reasons the oppossite way; like the squirrels at Cal are cuter, or the panoramic view from the 5th floor geog building beat any view at stanford; But with the things that actually matter regarding academics and social issues, Cal wins....
constructor said:why should i care? i don't feel the same way and none of my friends do either, but they have a right to say what they want to say.
Haybrant said:you're right, you can feel whatever way; but dont say in your post that you can assure the only people that feel that way are the people writing the article; if you dont want people to impose their beliefs on you, dont do it to them...
Whoa, just relax. I've never met anyone at Cal who has a blind, bitter hatred for Stanford. Everyone in the whole world knows it's a great school. I thought the stuff you were writing in the other thread was all in good fun so I was just going along with it. And I think the other Cal people were too. You do understand we're rivals, right? And as for which school is better? Who cares. The best school is simply the one that ultimately gets you where you want to be.constructor said:you're a nutcase. how am i imposing anything on them by stating that the two writers feel a certain way which is uncommon for students here in my experience? let's not forget that i go to school here (unlike you, who prefers to talk out of your ass and blow a lot of hot air like so many cal students), so i know how most people here tend to feel about this. i'm not trying to tell you how people at cal generally feel about stanford, so stop being an dingus and trying to tell me how stanford kids feel about cal, okay?
another comment i want to make here... the smart kids at cal whom i really respect and believe should've gotten into stanford do not have this blind, bitter hatred for stanford that you and a few others seem to have. instead, they are very objective and fair because they are completely secure about themselves. maybe you should try doing the same if you feel you really belong... 🙄

Wow those Wall Street Journal folks sure know how to conduct their research. How they were able to crunch all those numbers from all 5 of the med schools they surveyed boggles my mind. At least they have a sense of humor by coming up with the subtitle "A Comprehensive Ranking...". FYI, if I can remember correctly, our orientation consisted of about 10 minutes of Stanford bashing, just a tad bit shy of a few days.erebus77 said:WSJ Feeder Schools
anyways, the rivalry thing is just like between harvard and yale. all the schools mentioned are great schools, but yale's freshman orientation, just as is cal's, is a few days of vehement "rival" bashing. the opposite is not true.

People choose their school before attending classes at said school. This is a great way to guage the subjective opinions of HS grads that haven't taken a single college course, but as far as assessing the merits of the school, it means approximately d**k.kikkoman said:I think there's an easy way to end this:
